I cracked open the door of Tubbo's office and glanced inside, finding Tubbo seated at his desk with his head in his hands. I opened the door slightly wider and Tubbo looked up at me as I slipped inside the office.

"You— okay?" I questioned hesitantly. He sighed and leaned back in his chair.

"How could I be?" he muttered, "I've just exiled Tommy. I kicked my best friend and vice president out of my country. Was I wrong, (Y/n)? Was I being unreasonable?" I walked up to his desk and pulled a chair from against the wall, sitting down next to him.

"It's not really my place to say, but I can understand your reasons," I told him, "You just wanted to solve this issue as peacefully as possible, but Tommy made everything incredibly hard for you. He didn't let you help him."

"But he has to understand! I can't give up this country for him!" Tubbo exclaimed in frustration, "We've worked so hard to get L'Manburg to where it is, and I can't risk another war with Dream. Tommy brought this mess upon himself."

"True, he did, but you can't completely blame Tommy, either," I said, "You know what he's like. He never thinks before he does anything, and by the time he realizes his mistake, it's way too late."

"I know, I know. You don't blame me, (Y/n), do you?" he asked, "I've already lost Tommy now. I can't lose you, too." His voice cracked slightly and I felt my heart race in my chest. Of course I didn't blame him, but he seemed so scared that I would.

"I don't blame you, Tubbo," I said softly, "I know you didn't have much of a choice. You had to make such a fateful decision in a matter of minutes. I'll always be here to help you." He nodded slowly, lifting his head to meet my gaze.

"Your hair's a mess," he whispered, reaching up towards my face. I froze as he gently brushed a strand of hair behind my left ear and watched as a light blush painted his cheeks.

"Well, Big Q basically dragged me out of bed to go to your emergency meeting," I stuttered, feeling my face heat up. His eyes dropped to the floor and we sat there in silence for a few minutes. Finally, Tubbo cleared his throat and looked towards me again.

"Sorry," he murmured quickly, "I shouldn't have— I don't know why I— you know, um— did that, just —uh— forget that happened?"

"What if I— don't mind it?" I blurted out, unaware of what I had said until after I had spoken it. The blush on Tubbo's cheeks grew darker and I slowly wiped the sweaty palms of my hands down the sides of my pants.

You fucking idiot! What are you doing?!

"Um, (Y/n), what if— well," Tubbo said nervously, "I—You make me happy and I always enjoy the time I spend with you, and—uh, I don't know. I just think that you might be my closest friend now." He spoke the last sentence quickly and in a lower voice, obviously terrified that I would be offended by his confession.

"I've felt the same for a while now as well," I whispered. He lifted his head and looked at me in shock, his eyes wide.

"You— you do?" He questioned, his voice laced with both hopefulness and uncertainty.

"Ever since—I think—Schlatt's death, even though it wasn't until recently that I really gave much thought to it," I replied.

"I don't know when it started for me," Tubbo admitted, "But I had always been scared that you didn't feel the same or that you would start to distance yourself from me once I told you."

"Well, now we both know," I said, "So what do we do about it?" Silence fell between us once more, though more comfortable than the last time.

"Tommy's gone," Tubbo stated, "The person I trust most now is you. Whatever happens, we face it together?"
