The Totem

I definitely didn't miss the biting cold of the northern tundras. My hood was pulled tightly over my head and my hands were shoved deep in my pockets as I walked over the snow-covered ground. Small snowflakes drifted down from the fluffy clouds above and dotted the deep blue sky.

My fingers fidgeted with the smooth surface of the golden totem, brushing lightly over the gems in the eyes. This might be a bad idea. What if he tries to kill me?

I sighed and continued walking, but came to a stop when the familiar wooden cabin came into my view in the distance. Although, it seemed to be bigger than the last time I was here. My eyes traced the faint outline of the building with a deep breath.

"You already came all this way," I muttered to myself, "Can't go back now." I took my hands out from the front pocket of my hoodie and pulled off my hood, exposing the sides of my face and ears to the cold.

I hesitated for a moment longer, adjusting the strap of my sword's scabbard over my shoulder. I had debated on whether or not to bring it—as Techno could possibly see it as a threat—but finally decided to bring it since I was traveling all the way here and back on my own.

The sound of a door opening broke through my thoughts and I looked up to see a figure exiting the front door of the cabin. He walked down the steps and into the snow, his black wings lazily draped behind him, before disappearing around the other side of the house.

Phil!

I heard the creaking of a gate opening and closing, and then Phil reappeared holding a horse by its reins. He climbed onto the horse's back and flicked the reins, and the horse set off into a trot in the opposite direction from where I was standing.

As soon as he was out of view, I sped up my pace and found myself walking speedily towards Techno's cabin. I would have preferred Phil to be here, but I wasn't going to wait for the winged man to return—who knows how long he would be away.

I obviously know what happened last time I was away from L'Manburg for too long. I told Big Q I would be back by tomorrow afternoon at the latest, and Tubbo hopefully won't come looking for me before then.

Soon enough, I was standing at the top of the steps and on the front porch, face to face with the front door. I lifted my right hand and held it parallel to the wood but froze for a moment. For fuck's sake, (Y/n), just knock already! What, you going to go all the way back home?

Shut up, me.

I pursed my lips and quickly knocked on the door before letting my hand drop to my side. The inside was silent for a few seconds, and then I heard the sound of footsteps and the shuffling of objects within the house.

"Phil? I thought you left?" Techno's muffled voice said as I heard the sound of the door unlocking, "Why are you—" The door swung open and the pigman froze mid sentence when his eyes fell onto me.

"Uh. Hi, Techno." I waved nervously at him.

"I—(Y/n)—what...what are you doing here?" Techno stuttered, "What in the world are you doing here?" He grew more confident in his words.

"You—do you know that you caused me so much confusion within the past few days, I don't know what to believe anymore!" His eyes flashed bright red and I shrank back from the doorway.

"Techno, I-"

"You were with the Butcher Army! You willingly let them take Carl hostage and then arrest me and drag me all the way to L'Manburg! You watched as they tried to execute me and then did nothing but protect Tubbo!" He hastily grabbed his sword from beside the door and shot an angry glare at me as he stepped outside the house.
