"What the fuck do you think you're doing?!" I yelled, "Get back—it's going to kill you!" Big Q ducked one of the wither skulls that had been flying towards him and dived behind a large rock.
I groaned and aimed my bow at the wither, shooting three arrows in quick succession at its main body. The flying, black creature screamed and turned towards me. A skull suddenly launched in my direction and I darted back into the narrow passageway behind me, holding up my shield as the skull exploded.
"The golem isn't spawning, (Y/n)!" Fundy exclaimed at the top of his lungs. I fired another arrow at the wither and then ran back into the small cavern.
"Dumbass, the pumpkin's on sideways!" I shouted in exasperation. Fundy's ears perked up in surprise, and he turned back to the golem to correct the mistake.
"Give me that," I huffed, snatching the iron blocks and pumpkin heads out of the fox-eared man's hands. He blinked in surprise. "Go help Big Q, just do something!"
"Fine, okay!" He said, holding up his arms in surrender. Another skull exploded nearby and he winced at the impact. Then, he pulled out his own sword and ran over to where Big Q was stupidly attacking the wither head-on.
I quickly spawned in three iron golems, and to our luck they immediately became hostile towards the wither. I jumped out of their way and then ran over to pull Big Q and Fundy away from the danger zone as the golems began attacking.
Fundy laughed at the sight. "Holy shit! They're destroying it!"
"I told you I knew what I was doing," I hummed proudly. I crossed my arms in front of myself and the three of us watched the golems repeatedly attack the wither. There was a chance that I needed to spawn in another few, as two of the three were already close to falling apart.
"How'd you even know about this idea?" Big Q asked me curiously. I flashed a death glare at him and he coiled back in surprise.
"Who says I didn't think of it myself?"
"Sorr—"
"Oh, stop it, I found the tactic in a book," I cut him off with a small laugh, "You really think I'm smart enough to think of this? Nah, it was in that library at the White House"
Big Q shoved me into the wall. "Fuck you!"
"Ladies, let's not get things out of hand," Fundy chuckled, situating himself between the two of us and holding out his arms.
"Who the fuck are you calling 'lady', huh?" Big Q bristled irritatedly. "I'll show you who's a lady, bitch! Why don't you finish off the wither yourself?"
"Why don't you?" Fundy retorted.
"Shut the fuck up, both of you!" I shouted. The two of them went silent and glanced at each other before looking back at me. I ignored them and entered the cavern, where the wither and the one remaining golem were still fighting.
I grabbed my sword and swung at the wither. It must have been at extremely low health, because it let out a deafening scream and shattered into black pieces around me. The golem fell apart beside me.
I coughed and held the sleeve of my sweater over my mouth and nose as the withering effect covering the cavern began to fade away. "Boom!"
"Of course you finish it off," Fundy grumbled in disappointment, "But thanks, (Y/n). I don't think we could have killed it without your help."
"Personally, I think we could ha—"
"Nah," Fundy huffed, shoving Big Q.
I picked up the nether star from the ground, turning it over in my hand. It had a bright yellow center that turned into a shiny white at the edges. Big and Fundy were still bickering behind me, and I released a long sigh.
"I really don't know how you guys have managed to get along all these years," I muttered, shaking my head. Big Q stuck out his tongue at me. "Here."
Fundy took the nether star from my outstretched hand. "Thanks, (Y/n)."
"No problem," I chirped with a smile, "It's my job to fight off things, isn't it? Just don't think about asking me again without offering something in return. No way in hell am I doing this as a favor again."
"Yeah, okay," Big Q laughed. The three of us spent the next few minutes walking down the long tunnel we had created in order to separate the wither from anything of importance. The tunnel opened up into a large cave system lit by torches. We weaved through the many passageways beore finally coming upon the shaft that led to the surface.
It took a moment for my eyes to adjust to the bright sunlight of the mid-afternoon after spending that last few hours underground. Although, it was definitely nice to breathe in the fresh air again instead of the stale, dry scent of the caves. My backpack was heavy from the many ores we had accidently excavated and shared between ourselves.
"If you ever need to use our beacon, just let us know," Fundy told me.
"I doubt I'll ever need to," I assure him. The fox-eared man shrugged at my response and then turned to say something to Big Q. I said goodbye to them and headed back to my home in L'Manberg. The first thing I did when I got home was throw my backpack on the floor and collapse onto the couch with a sigh.
I couldn't remember the last time I got to go home and relax.
It had been a long couple of days, coupling the morning sparring with Dream with my other daily activities. I was getting used to the early wake-up by getting to bed earlier than before, and my body was slowly adjusting to performing properly around dawn. However, that wasn't going to stop me from taking a well deserved nap.
I pulled myself off the couch and over to the bathroom, then took a nice warm shower to clean off all the dirt and dust from the battle. Afterwards, I pulled on a set of white pajamas and jumped onto the mattress. I must have fallen asleep right as my head hit the pillow, because I couldn't even remember closing my eyes.
I woke up to the gentle touch of something in my hair. As I began to wake up, I could feel someone's hand brush through my hair from where they sat on the bedside. I blinked my eyes open and yawned, smiling when I saw Tubbo at my side.
"Hey, sleepy," he giggled.
"Hi, Tubbo. What time is it?" I asked groggily.
"Early evening," he replied, "I was looking around for you, but when I was asking around, nobody knew where you were. Big Q suggested checking your house, and I found the door unlocked and you asleep inside."
I sat upright and smiled at him. "I hope you weren't sitting there too long."
"No, no, not at all," Tubbo said with a shake of his head. He shifted himself so that he was sitting cross-legged beside me on top of the blanket. His arm wrapped around my chest and I leaned my head on his shoulder.
"Are you burnt out from everything?" He asked in concern, "If it's too much, I can ask Dream if he can make the sparring later in the day, or every other day, and I can get Big Q to take over some of—"
"I'm fine, Tubbo, don't worry," I assured him, "Just a bit tired; that's all. You've got more to deal with than I do, and yet look at you—perfectly fine."
He laughed from beside me. "I guess you're right."
The two of us sat on my bed for a while in silence. I focused only on the sound of Tubbo's breathing and the way his chest rose and fell each time. At one point, his one hand took hold of mine and he gently squeezed it.
I don't know why, but the thought suddenly occurred to me that although there were many things I missed about my life before L'Manberg, there was one thing that made me no longer regret everything that happened—having Tubbo with me as my closest friend.
"I just realized there was something I came to tell you," Tubbo told me, "mind if we go on a little walk?"
"Nope, let's go." He hopped off the bed and I followed him, and the two of us left my house. The sun began to dip below the tree-lined horizon and the pink-tinted sky was dotted with twinkling stars and a round yellow moon.
