"I was sitting in my office all night, you know?" Tubbo hummed as we walked, "Our trip to Logstedshire was playing over and over again in my head. The damaged house. The cobble tower. The panic that I felt when I saw it."
"It must have been awful—stuck in your own head."
"Yeah." He nodded, squeezing on my hand. "It was like this inner voice in my head was telling me over and over that it was my fault. I sort of got lost within it and, well, couldn't help but blame myself."
"You had us all worried sick," I told him, "But you've come around now, and everything will be fine. I'm here for you and so is everyone else."
The brunet smiled at me gratefully. "Thanks, (Y/n). Do you know where Big Q and the others might be?"
"No, I haven't been in L'Manburg all day," I said while shaking my head, "Speaking of, I passed a few people earlier that I didn't recognize. There was this one who wore a black outfit and had these pointed horns on their head, and another that looked like a gray cat. And a third with a gas mask and green sweater."
"Oh, you must have seen the Badlands members," Tubbo commented, "the one in black is Bad, the cat-like one is Ant, and the person in the gas mask is Sam. There's a fourth member by the name of Puffy."
"Interesting," I said, "What does Puffy look like?"
"In a way, she's similar to your brother. She has these sheep horns on her head, and she wears a pirate captain's outfit. That's why her nickname is Captain Puffy. She's a really nice person, and I'd bet you two would make good friends."
"Hm. I'd love to meet her sometime," I chirped with a smile, "There must be other people in the area I've never met before. Can you name anyone else?"
Tubbo tilted his head to the side in thought. "There's Skeppy, who's a close friend of Bad's, but he's not by often. Let me think...oh, there's also Karl, and Ponk, and Callahan—"
"Hey, (Y/n)!" I heard a voice to my right and I turned to see that it belonged to Big Q. There was a look of relief in his eyes when he noticed Tubbo beside me.
"Hello," Tubbo greeted with a shy smile, "I-Uh, sorry about whacking you with that book, Big Q. I hope I didn't hurt you too bad with it..."
"It's fine, Tubbo, don't worry," the man said, patting his hand on the boy's shoulder, "I'm just glad you're out of the White House and taking everything a bit better. If there's anything I can do to help, just let me know."
"Thanks. I'm doing better, now."
"That's good to hear, man, really good," Big Q nodded, "Actually, we had a little surprise planned for when you felt better. D'you want to come and—"
"Sorry, when did you have the time to make a surprise?" I cut in with a raised eyebrow.
"It was while you were out and about yesterday," he answered, "Me, Fundy, Ranboo, and Niki made it."
"Where were you, (Y/n)?" Tubbo questioned. in confusion, "You weren't here?"
"Errands," I told him, "I was all over L'Manburg and the Smp. So, about that surprise, Big Q?"
"Ah, yeah." The beanie wearing man clapped his hands together and held them clasped together in front of himself. "Well, because of—y'know—Tommy's death and everything, we made him a little resting place."
Oh fucking lord, how am I supposed to explain this eventually... Because there is certainly no goddamn way that Tommy's staying away from here for long. They're going to find out.
"Where?"
"It's over this way, come on."
Tubbo and I followed Big Q off of the path, and he soon led us to a small grassy area outside of L'Manburg where there was a gravestone, chiseled out of rock. The word 'TommyInnit' was ingrained along the bottom edge and there were small bouquets of white lilies lying on top of it or on the ground around it.
When Tubbo stepped towards it, I was about to follow him when a hand on my shoulder suddenly held me in place.
"I'll leave you to be with him alone, but don't let him stay too long, (Y/n)," Big Q whispered into my ear. Without turning to look at him, I nodded. He sighed and then the hand disappeared, a pair of footsteps crunching in the grass back towards town.
"You okay, there, Tubs?" I asked, coming to stand at his left. I wrapped one arm around his waist and held it there as he stared blankly at the gravestone. I watched as he bit down on his lip.
"Y-yeah," he replied hesitantly, "It's just-" He sighed, his gaze dropping to the ground.
"Tommy, I'm sorry about what happened. I should have done something while I still could. I'll remember you as my best friend—even if you don't."
Suddenly, I was reminded of something in the past that sent a shiver down my spine. All this felt eerily similar to when Tubbo comforted me over Schlatt's death, although the roles were switched now.
And besides the fact that Tommy wasn't actually dead.
Ugh, the urge to tell him has never been stronger. It's awful seeing him like this. Ay! Stop! You promised Tommy and Techno. Yes, I know! I didn't say I was going to tell him, just that the urge to do so was really strong! Yeah, yeah, whatever you say—
"I won't ever forget you," the brunet whispered, "And I hope you can forgive me for everything." He reached inside the front of his suit and pulled something out, holding the small object in his open palm.
Your Tommy.
It looked exactly the same as the day it had been broken, with pieces of the glass missing at sharp, jagged angles and the remaining glass lined with cracks. I removed my arm from around Tubbo and watched as he lowered himself down to the ground and gently set the broken compass in the grass, directly in front of the tombstone.
"Goodbye for now," he stated after a deep breath. Then, he turned around and glanced at me, offering a sad smile. I returned it and leaned over to take hold of his outstretched hand as we started walking back towards L'Manburg.
The sky was dark and the limited light that shone through the treetops came from the dim, crescent moon, and only once the lanterns of the town came into view could we actually see where we were going.
"Want to stay in the White House for the night?" Tubbo offered, "We can set up blankets in the living room and have a sleepover over something. Just help to keep my mind off of Tommy."
"You missed me, didn't you," I accused with a laugh, "This is an excuse to spend time with me."
"So what if it is?" He retorted lightheartedly, knocking into my shoulder, "Am I not allowed to miss you, (Y/n)?"
"No, you're allowed," I said, smiling, "I missed having you by my side as well."
