A/n - Thank you guys so so much for 150k reads!! That's literally incredible—I can't believe how much this story has grown. This special is sort of inspired by Cinderella (which is my school's musical this year and I've spent too long listening to the soundtrack lmao) Hope you guys enjoy! Lmk your thoughts (:

"How do I look?" Schlatt asked. I could hear a hint of nerves in his voice. So, I reached out to adjust his tie, running my hand down the sleeve of his suit to flatten the creases.

"Downright handsome," I assured him, "I'd assume you don't want the crown, hm?" I motioned towards the servant beside us, who held a red velvet pillow in her hands with the spotless golden crown sat atop of it.

"No, absolutely no crown," the horned man muttered, waving the girl away, "I am not giving that Tommy boy a chance to call me an egotistical dick again."

"Tommy means well," I laughed, watching the girl walk back down the hall, "I'm sure you know that, else you wouldn't have given him a job. Though I agree he is quite the handful sometimes."

"But I put up with him," my brother sighed, turning to study himself in the mirror, "Of course, that's only because you're courting his best friend." My jaw dropped in shock as he smirked at me through the reflection.

"Fucking son of a bitch!" I whispered harshly, slapping him hard on the side of the head. He winced and glared at me angrily while straightening out his collar and jacket.

"For your information, I'm quite certain that you're the daughter of the same bitch," he retorted coolly. I pulled my mouth into a thin line and glanced to the side, where a servant boy happened to be using a broom to dust the hall.

"S'cuse me, if I could just have that for a moment—"

"Holy sh—Oi! Fine! I take it back!" Schlatt exclaimed, his eyes wide as he held his arms over his head. "What the actual fuck!"

"Alright, then," I replied pleasantly, a victorious grin on my face. I lowered the broom and handed it back to the boy, who nodded and bowed slightly before turning around and walking down the hall. The two of us watched him for a second before looking back at each other.

"Shall we go now?" He questioned, taking a step towards the large, wooden double doors and peeking through a small crack between them, "They're all in there." I barely just hummed in response before he was already pushing them open. Two soldiers, standing on either side of the doors, pulled them open the rest of the way. The gentle chatter began to quiet as Schlatt entered the ballroom, walking up to the edge of the balcony that overlooked the crowd.

I followed my brother out and stood a few steps behind him and to the right. This was my first time seeing the ballroom in all its glory, and my gaze wandered across it, taking in the brightly colored decorations that hung from the ceiling and walls. Then, my eyes darted over the sea of people below, searching for a certain someone—yet I couldn't seem to find him.

"Thank you, everyone, for attending the first Manburg ball!" Schlatt spoke to the crowd, breaking my train of thought, "It is my honour for all of you to be here today. Before we begin, there are a few things I'd like to address. First of all, I believe Niki deserves a round of applause for creating such a beautifully decorated ballroom!"

I clapped my hands and turned behind me to see Niki standing against the wall as she gave a shy wave with a proud smile on her face. She was wearing a simple but lovely shoulderless, dandelion yellow dress with a dark yellow sash tied around her waist in a flowery knot.

Schlatt continued speaking, but I stopped paying attention when I finally caught sight of the person I had been looking for. I could barely make out his head of fluffy, brown hair as he was dragged along by the arm by his best friend. I laughed quietly to myself as the two clumsily dodged around other attendees near the back of the ballroom.
