♕ The Depth of Numbness ♕

There was someone else in the room with him, and she could see her eyes glowing as her hands grabbed onto his shoulders, and travelled down to his back, right above the place of her marking. Nerezza leaned forward to the dark trying to see who it was, what it was that they believed it possible for his marking to go away, to think that he would be able to ever escape what she'd created inside of him.

She grabbed onto him, sinked her nails in his markings and let his scream fill her ears. Whoever it was moved away, as if Nerezza herself had teared her hands away from him.

Mason stared into her mind and Nerezza did not shy away from him.

"I told you to leave me alone" he said, thought, she was not sure. Did not know how it was possible, why out of everyone she'd marked it was him, him who she could see, him who she could feel inside her head. Him who had haunted her night after night.

"You think I'm doing this on purpose?"

"Doesn't matter. You won't be able to feel me again" Mason spoke. And Nerezza felt him, his own shadows grabbing onto her grip, tearing her apart from his back, from his skin, pushing her away, his mind slipping from her own, dark clouds covering her eyes, screams of pain, his pain, echoing inside her head. "Let go"

"No" Nerezza said, and heard him sigh.

"Let go Nez"

But she could not let go.

Could never let go.

Could never...

She opened her eyes and found her marking covering most of her skin, from her fingertips, all the way surrounding her elbows. She could see her skin trying to shine from underneath, even her nails seemed darker, seemed more sharp somehow. Mason's eyes still stared at her inside her mind. She could start to feel him slipping away, as if the cursing that had connected them were breaking apart. She stood from the bed walking out the door. Two of those she'd marked in luna bay guarding her door, she could not know either of their names, did not care enough to find out, but she recognized them, remember their eyes in her mind. The boy that had tried to run towards her, and a girl with a scar on her face.

Nerezza barely let her eyes wonder in it, as she walked past them towards the bottom of Exilium. She could feel him waiting even now, could feel him pulling on the stone he'd attached to her neck, one she'd make sure to make him swallow down the second he let his grip slip up the tiniest bit.

She walked, step by step, letting the mountain around her welcome her inside, letting herself memorize the places she'd seen a thousand times before and had never bothered to truly see. Exilium seemed brighter now, the stardust ringing to the touch of her hand.

She reached the ninth level, sat down on her favorite chair, and watch him pase around the room, his hands behind his back in fists. Nerezza could see him perfectly clear now, his tall demeanor, the darkness of his eyes, his hair, the markings around his throat, the necklace of moonstone gems around his neck, similar to the one he'd so kindle gifted her, and yet hers was no common moonstone.

"Are you going to tell me why I am here yet?" Nerezza spoke, and the man turned to her a devil look inside his eyes.

"You've been summoned" he said. "A chariot will be waiting for you down at the front entrance"

Nerezza felt her blood chill, she slowly stood up, feeling her breath stuck in her throat as her eyes met with his. "Excuse me? I am ..."

"You were" He said. "You were her chosen one. But as I've concluded my business elsewhere I'll be staying here permanently, and you will return to your former position as handmaiden."
