"I thought you'd gone to sleep" Dorian said closing the door behind him. Aubrette shook her head. She'd been sitting on the floor of his bedroom waiting for him to come back. Dorian smiled sitting beside her. "Whats wrong?" He asked.

And Aubrette could not turn to look at him as she spoke. "I guess you spoke to Phoenix already"

"Yes" Dorian said.

"Why did you not tell the others?" She said, her voice shaking. She had not stopped to think, what would they think of the deal they'd made, what they would think of her, even if they did not seem fond of Stella she was trying to steal something from them, no matter that the throne would not be her own.

"I'd rather not give them hope. Besides, what are the odds of us being able to find something to turn her over for?" Dorian said shrugging.

"Us?"

"You didn't think I'd help you?" He said, his voice surprised. Aubrette shook her head. Dorian smirked, looking under the bed and reaching for something.

A bottle of wine appearing as he took out his hand. Aubrette smirked.

"Honestly I didn't even think to ask"

Dorian nodded slowly, opening the bottle and taking a sip.

"Well, the choosing will be a good place to start. And I've been meaning to ask you about something..."

"What?" Aubrette said, taking a sip from the bottle herself. Feeling as the ache on her muscles faded away. Even when they'd been training extra hours each day.

"I don't think its enough to stop Morte from getting to the necklace."

"Why?"

"If it is what we think, and Stella finds out... or worse, if it gets to your mother somehow..."

Aubrette blinked, her stomach sinking. If her mother got her hands in the necklace there wouldn't be anything they could do to stop her.

"You think we should steal it?"

"Yes" Dorian said. "Its the only way we can assure no one will use it for something it wasn't meant for. I can hide it, and after the war ends..."

"It could be used to restore the ones my mom marked" Aubrette whispered as the thought entered her head.

"It could do more than that. It could give them back their blessings as well"

Aubrette sighed, nodding. "Do you think it'll work?"

Dorian stayed silent. "It might."

Aubrette took another sip of the wine, everything inside her body told her she should be sleeping, resting her mind for the days to come, trying to think on a way to alert Sybilla of it, tell her about it all, but finding no way that would not risk exposing their plans. She knew she needed to come out with a better plan, a more safe one, for not only her but all who'd be there that night, and yet, all she wanted to do was cloud her mind and forget about everything.

She grabbed the bottle and almost downed the whole thing, it was warmer than she would've liked, or maybe that was just her. It was a shame her blessing burned through it so quickly. All of the buzz would be over in just a couple of hours, and she would be back to overthinking about the next couple of days over and over until her mind felt like bleeding.

"This is strange" Dorian said.

"What do you mean?" She asked, placing the bottle down.

"I mean, I've never really allowed anyone into my room, much less on my birthday, and yet it feels normal to have you here, sitting on the floor as if you'd been around me your whole life." He laughed. "I guess you have. In a way"
