Chapter Nineteen

♕ Onyx Sky ♕

"Holy fuck Jax" Skylar muttered, teeth chattering and hair wet. "Couldn't you have picked a lesser cold hour?"

Jax shrugged. "I dont do goodbyes." He said. "Zeek and Astrid would've been a pain in the ass and we would've ended leaving after midday."

Skylar rolled their eyes. "They'll hate you for this you know" Sky poked their tongue out at him, crossing their arms across their chest.

Jax smiled. "Good thing I won't be seeing them again for a while isn't it?"

"Ass"

Asher followed their conversation as he tried to keep up with their hurried steps. The moon city was mostly empty, the sun barely out in the sky to start warming up the alleys and streets. He tried to take in as much as he could from the sight. The snow slowly melting from the roofs of houses, puddles of water on small corners. Sidewalks covered by freezing ice. He tried to remember the drawings in the walls and doors of each house, some hanging small moons in their pathways.

He had not seen the rest of Skylar's friends before they'd left this morning, and somehow that was a good thing, no more familiar faces to fear finding dead in his dreams.

"Don't worry prince, it won't be as cold once we make some way into the sea" Skylar said, trying to comfort him somehow. Out of the three of them, Asher was the one wearing more clothing.

Jax laughed. "Yeah right"

Asher rolled his eyes but said nothing. As hard as it would be to keep his mouth shut and not defend himself the both of them were doing him a favor, and he owed them that much.

"Jax!"

The three of them halted their steps as they heard the name, turning their heads towards the direction. A curly headed boy approaching them, a slight frown on his forehead. His jaw tensed.

"Hey" Jax said, clearing his throat. "I'm kind of in the middle of something"

The guy finally reached them stopping and taking a breath. "I'm not hear to talk, I'm hear to let you know someone new arrived this morning. And she didn't seem all that scared to be out in the open. It might be a follower of the queen."

Skylar and Asher turned to each other.

"Do you think it could be?" He asked. Skylar sighed.

"Of course its her." They said, rubbing their face with the palms of their hands.

Jax nodded at the guy. "Thank you"

His eyes fell on their bags, Asher moved to the side, feeling as if he were stepping in the middle of something. Skylar grabbed his hand pulling him aside.

"You're leaving?" He heard the guy say behind them, Skylar's eyes rolled.

"That's Jax's ex" Sky whispered to him. "Mostly a pain in the ass but loyal enough I guess"

Asher cleared his throat. "What will be do about Nerezza?" He said, his whole face felt suddenly warm, no lingering cold from before.

Skylar smirked. "We are gonna have a bit of fun"

Turns out he had underestimated the people around him again. Asher watched in owe as Jax and Skylar grabbed their swords and pinned them around balancing them before daring to step near the beach. I'td been a long time since they last had a real fight they said, but he couldn't helo but feel they were walking right into a trap.
