Of all the moments she got to have to herself during the day, these moments were Korra's favorite. Though they were far too short like the few other breathers she got, they had one thing that all the other moments didn't.
Lemaya.
Korra sat with her legs crossed on the edge of a stone wall, admiring Lemaya as the fantastic way she whirled around Naga, pretending to jut the green and gold fans in her hands toward Naga's fur. Naga's reflexes were quick and she'd always paw at Lemaya just in time, a sloppy grin on her face. Or as much of a grin as a polar bear-dog can muster.
Lemaya laughed every time and nuzzled her nose against Naga's paw, saying they needed to go again so that she'd have at least one win against her. Naga happily howled and readied herself again, waiting for Lemaya to move against her. Except, this time, instead of jutting the fans' closed metal sides toward Naga's face, Lemaya whipped open her right fan's wood leaf, the green and gold design continuing onto its face, as she delicately fanned Naga's nose.
Naga sniffed, her nose curling at the sudden cool wind. Lemaya grinned as she continued to fan Naga, only pausing her movements to give Naga a bit of rest. After a moment, Lemaya raised her fan into the sky, circled it behind her head, and nimbly pulled droplets of water out of the wetness still soaking the stone floor beneath them from that morning's rain to douse Naga's face in a sea spray. "There. I win," Lemaya declared, flicking the fan in her left hand open and gently batting it at her face, "Fair and square."
Naga snorted clearly unhappy with Lemaya's borderline cheating. "Okay, maybe not fair and square, but I did win." Grunting, Naga turned her head away from Lemaya, and Korra couldn't help but laugh at the slack that filled Lemaya's jaw. "Did you see that?" Lemaya gasped, turning toward Korra with her fans pointed right at Naga.
"I did. Maybe you shouldn't have cheated," Korra shrugged as she tried her best to hide all the shameless glances she was taking at Lemaya as she moved once Lemaya turned to face her. Narrowing her eyes at Korra, Lemaya's face broke out into a grin at the poor job Korra was doing at keeping her thoughts in. What am I going to do with her?
Shaking her head, Lemaya sighed and padded over to Naga, wrapping her arms as best as she could around Naga's large frame and murmuring against her fur, "I'm sorry, Naga. Next time I won't spray you with my bending, okay?" Naga barked in dissatisfaction and Lemaya figured she'd have to apologize again.
That was until Naga jerked to the right, launched Lemaya across the stone courtyard, then went back to her sitting position as if nothing had happened. Korra spluttered out a huge laugh as Lemaya sat up, frazzled, her eyes blinking back shock. The two locked eyes, both of them not expecting Naga to take it that far, and Korra immediately jumped down off of her perch to help Lemaya up.
But before she could, Naga came racing over as if she couldn't let Korra steal Lemaya from her just yet. Pushing Korra out of the way, Naga knelt down to Lemaya and licked the side of her face, a gesture of good faith if you will as she nudged Lemaya to make sure she was still alive on the stone floor.
Lemaya let out a breathy laugh and patted Naga's nose, a smile playing on her lips. "You're just too strong for your own good, old girl, but I'm okay." Naga panted and bent her nose under Lemaya's raised arm, using her snout to help her get back on her feet.
Lemaya scratched Naga's nose as she stood and her eyes found Korra just as she managed to get past Naga. "It seems everyone wants to keep us apart these days," Korra joked as she hooked her hands around Lemaya's waist and gave her a once over, "Any broken bones?"
"None that I feel." Lemaya twisted her wrists around her fans and the rest of her joints just in case. "Yep, no broken bones."
Korra smiled softly and said, "Good." She pressed a kiss to Lemaya's forehead, then gave a sharp look to Naga, telling her not to throw people around like that unless their bad guys.
