The months she spent trying to wrestle her mind into submission were torture. She hoped she would be better by then, but even if she was now able to move like she used to, Korra was still finding things difficult. Her meditation never went further than emptying her mind so no reconnecting with her Avatar Spirits was happening. Her bending exercises were so pitiful that even her teachers stopped trying to coax her into being able to bend more than just the basics that any two-year-old could do. Even her mind felt out of place in her own body.
The nightmares certainly didn't help, but Katara said they were just a side effect of all the introspection she was doing. Considering that they were usually of people who weren't there, she stopped complaining ages ago. It was much better than seeing Zaheer every night.
Despite her father's reservations, Korra always found herself sneaking off to the outskirts of the city and just waiting. He had told her about the spirit sightings and that Lemaya had encountered one. At first, Korra was more than peeved that Lemaya hadn't said anything. The way people would avoid telling her things like she was too fragile hurt even worse when by all accounts—on the outside, at least—she was fine, but that was a long time ago before she progressed to where she was now.
Once her father told her that he made Lemaya promise not to say anything, she relented. It wasn't as if there were things that she was keeping to herself. They had struck a balance and had a routine to see each other and catch up amidst their busy schedules, but Korra could not tell if she liked it or not. She was always happy to see her girlfriend but it wasn't like it used to be and if there was one thing Korra was tired of, it was change.
Korra opened her eyes and sighed letting her hands pick back up her ink pen and keep writing. She had hit a wall in her letter back to Asami and figured that maybe meditating would solve both her problems: produce a great letter and get her back into her spiritual groove. Neither happened, but she needed to get Asami's letter out before she went to the theater later.
Otherwise, she'd lose her nerve.
Asami wrote to her about random things about her latest contract and what she was doing with the city. Korra was glad she could help her with that, though things with her father did not seem to be getting any better. Asami seemed rather annoyed at the fact that he was bringing back up the past with his sudden appearance than anything and Korra understood that. She would give anything to forget it all.
So, she wrote back just that and told Asami that if she ever needed a break from it all to just let her know. Part of Korra knew she wouldn't take her up on her offer but that is probably why she said it. The other part hoped Asami would say the same and she could get out of the South for a bit.
She used to never mind being there all the time until she had friends out in the world helping which she would be doing if she wasn't utterly failing at everything. It was a fight to remind herself that she was recovering and not being held prisoner in her own home. At times she couldn't even tell the difference anymore.
A bit ago, Tenzin had come to see her at the behest of Katara who said she worried that Korra was focusing too much on trying to reclaim her spirituality. Korra thought it was stupid that she was worried because she was fine, but she didn't mind a chance to see Tenzin again. And, he had brought Ikki and Tosi with him because he hoped they could demonstrate some more strides toward mastering their own spirituality.
Korra would sit with them for hours in between her exercises with her teachers. After a while, she stopped being able to blame her blockage on her sore muscles from trying to learn the new rare techniques her teachers tried to challenge her with and she had to cope with the fact that there was nothing to blame but herself. "You'll get it eventually, Korra," Tosi had said.
