Only the Avatar can master all four elements and bring balance to the world
THIS JUST IN:
The Avatar has gone missing! Three years ago, Zaheer poisoned Korra, severely injuring her. While her friends continued on with their lives, Korra remained in recovery in the South Pole. A year ago, Korra set out on a journey to find herself, but as of six months ago, no one has seen her since. With conflicting information on her whereabouts, the current status of the Avatar is unknown. What has become of her and when will she return?
The days had begun to blur together as Korra pressed further and further into the Spirit World. No matter how many rifts she closed, there was always more. The Spirit World was vast and nearly endless, so it was not all that surprising, but Korra had wanted there to be an end. That way, she could feel accomplished in having finished a real Avatar task and been able to go home with her head held high.
Now, she did not know if she would ever make it.
A few times, with the help of some small and kind spirits who took the plunge for her, Korra was able to find a few spirit rifts that bled into places in the Human World that would allow her to call home. It was great to hear from everyone back home, especially as they started preparations for Lemaya's ceremony which she was beyond proud about. The last time she had called there were still months left which meant she had time to finish the business with the Spirit World. But the reminder that if she closed all of the rifts from the inside she would be stuck there loomed over her each time she brought another breach to a close.
"Taking another break, Avatar?"
Korra feared that her eyes would get stuck in the back of her skull from how hard she rolled them every time that spirit reappeared. Ashi chittered in discontent as the dark bird swooped down from the side, its reptilian eyes taunting Korra as it swam around her arms.
"Nice gloves. Going to complete the outfit?"
She crossed her arms across her chest, wincing at the jolt of pain that rushed through her arms at the sudden pressure. "What do you want, Yunshei?"
"I was just checking on your progress." The spirit chuckled lowly as it started to circle Ashi's large head. "I've heard some things from a few friends of mine about your work. Figured they may have gotten you into trouble."
Ashi thrust its head forward and nearly sank its fanged teeth into Yunshei's hide. The serpent spirit hissed as a few of its black feathers sprung into the air and Korra held herself back from laughing as Ashi continued chasing the spirit around the glowing rift.
She had been seriously dreading these encounters that Yunshei would whisper about. Ashi told her to pay it no mind as the spirit was probably trying to trick her as some do, but she could not shake the feeling that there was some truth. For the most part, the spirits had stayed away from her. Maybe it was because she didn't have her spirits fully with her or because they no longer wanted her as the Avatar. Either way, it left her feeling uneasy whenever she'd walk miles in the Spirit World and see nothing but Ashi.
"Well, it seems like you're in more trouble than me," Korra sighed as she made her way to the portal. She flashed Ashi a knowing look and said, "Please try not to start a spirit civil war while I'm gone." The last she heard was Ashi's gruffs of agreement before she walked out into the thin trees of a deathly humid forest. Wiping her brow, Korra was grateful that the rabbit spirit Uli had figured out where that rift led far before she had even asked. She certainly would not have been able to guess from the scenery alone.
