"Mom?" I yelled down towards the living room as I hopped down the steps.

"In here!" She yelled back. The tv played quietly in the background and sat on the couch flipping through a magazine.

Today was sunday, meaning I had the great pleasure of meeting Ghost Facers in person. Not exactly how i wanted my day to go. I didnt really need to let my parents know that i was going to a cafe to meet two grown adult men that i had met online and agreed to talk to them about two other men that have fake identities.

My parents would be so proud of who i am associating myself with.

I sat on the couch next to her and stared at her magazine for a few moments chewing on the inside of my cheek.

"What do you want to ask me?" She said expressionless as she didn't even look up from "21 ways to revamp your living room."

"Nothing, I'm just sitting here with you." I said with a shrug as I tried to contain my smile.

"The only time you ever sit with me for no reason is because you need something." This time she glanced up at me raised an eyebrow. I let out a pretend offended sound and laughed.

"I never do that." I said not able to keep my grin contained as I laughed. She rolled her eyes but a smile found its way onto her face as well.

"Well now that I know what your up to," she paused as she placed her newspaper down on the coffee table and looked at me, "what do you want now?" Unfortunately this made me smile harder.

"I was wondering if I could run down to Starbucks today to see Sylvia later on today." I stated still grinning.

Keep it together.

"This is the week I got back, why can't you do another day?" She asked raising an eyebrow.

Hmm. So maybe I should have thought through some answers before just wining this conversation.

Good job Leigh.

"Well," I started, shifting over so I was facing forward instead of at her and tried to get as serious as possible, "Sylvia and I didn't get off at the best note and I want to fix everything before it's beyond repair."

Don't smile.

Don't smile.

Don't smile.

Don't smile.

Think of something sad. Something that would ruin your life. The thing that you hate the most that will make you believe it.

Mom being guilty.

My smile permanently faded and i glanced down at my feet. She took a deep breath and leaned her head back.

"Sure."

Yes. Yes. Yes.

I looked up at her and she opened her mouth to speak.

"I'll just walk." Was all I happily said as I got up from the couch I hopped upstairs and she laughed to herself.

I changed into some leggings and a large grey sweatshirt that said something about a lake on it and had a walleye on the front. Picking out place high tops I threw them on and grabbed my money and phone which I knew I would need, before sprinting down the stairs.

My mom was in the kitchen reading the back of a package and leaning up against the counter. She paid no attention to me until I grabbed my jacket and looked up.

"Wait, are you going now?"

What do I say.

Say something.

Anything.

Speak.

C'mon.

Go.

"Yea."

Good job genius.

"You said later." she said giving me an annoyed expression.

Recover.

"Well Sylvia said this was her only time so I was just gonna go now." I said with a shrug.

She stared at me, he expression read something like "unimpressed" or "how dumb do you think I am?" as she raised an eyebrow.

"Fine." she said turning back to her cooking.

I stood there a little stunned. Is she just going to let me go.

I hurried out the door and at the same time I pulled my jacket on and I made my way to Starbucks.

............

"May I have a salted caramel mocha frappechino? Venti." I said to the women at the counter. She nodded and I paid before waiting for my drink. How long was this going to take?

I looked around the cafe as secretly as possible.

No.

Not them.

Where could they be?

Back table on the right. Got it.

"Here ya go." the women said handing it to me and I mumbled out a "thanks have a nice day" or something along the lines of that.

I made my way to the table and sat down before getting slightly confused looks.

"Leigh Winchester?"

I nodded.

"Ghost Facers?"

They nodded.
