Hackers

Okay. There's been news going around that hackers are coming, so a lot of people are making their accounts go black to seem inactive.

I need to clear up some things.

1. What do you blacking out your account will do? Make them think "Oh, they seem to be inactive. Welp, no use here!"
No! If they can hack a whole bunch of accounts, then they can see when you're active/when you were last active!

2. I've been here 6 years, nearing 7 in a few months, and these threats have popped up SO many times! A hacker, a group of hackers, someone will make the website shutdown, all passwords are gonna be hacked and changed, someone is gonna sell all the info on here, etc; etc. I've seen this again and again, and NOTHING happens!
The closest thing I've expirienced to any of these threats being real is sites stealing stories, or "Window Sites" as Shittpad calls them.

3. Even if you go inactive for a while, WP still has your IP address, so the hackers would see that easily. It's, sadly, not that hard.

4. As far as I've seen, the info came from Discord.
The same site predator catchers go on to catch predators a lot of the time.
Discord isn't a very resourceful source. So take this with a grain of salt.

I'm not saying it's impossible this can happen, I'm just saying the chances are slim.

I use to freak out over these threats, too, for a while. But after the 6th or 7th threat, it became clear to me this crap has very small chances of happening.

So no, you don't have to go dark, there's no point anyways. Just be weary. And make sure you don't get sent any weird links.

If someone sends you a link that looks weird, or even a fake link that looks like y.outube.com or something (dunno if there really is a y.outube.com), don't click it. Pay attention to every word and points.
