Like the pun title? Hehehe-
That's the only good thing about this.
I just saw all the designs for the new MH movie...
As someone who has loved MH since I was like 9 or 10, this REALLY sucks!
I have SO MANY complaints!
1.
When was and why is Draculaura a sorcerer!?2.
Why could they give Draculaura and Frankie their green and pink skin, give Heath his orange skin. but not give Lagoona Blue her BLUE SKIN!?
WHY DOES SHE LOOKS LIKE SOME POP SINGER WHO GUEST STARS IN A 2010'S TWEEN SITCOM!?!3.
Deuce-
What did they do to this Chad-
He wears SUNglasses, not seeing glasses!
AND WHERE TF IS HIS SNAKE HAIR!?! HE'S THE FUKING SON OF MEDUSA!!!
HE WEARS SUNGLASSES TO KEEP HIMSELF FROM TURNING PEOPLE INTO STONE, AND HE HAS SNAKE HAIR!!!
AND HE WAS A DAM CHAD
NOW HE JUST GREEN HAIRED NERD
HE LOOKS LIKE HE WALKED OUTTA THAT SHOW RIVERDALE, AND I HATE IT4.
Heath looks like the usual Jock bully you see in teen movies and not the same scrawny dude who's always trying to pick up girls.5.
This literally looks like the Halloween commercial for last-minute deals at Party City.6.
Is it just me, or does Clawdeen seem...lighter? Like, the Clawdeen I know had somewhat darker tone in skin. Her sister, Howleen, did have a lighter skin tone similar to this actress, but Clawdeen's was darker.7.
And personal opinion, but MH already has a diverse cast so I don't see why Bloodgood needs to be black instead of pale with her smoothed back purple hair. Not hating on the actress though. But considering how woke everything is getting, I don't and can't see Nick doing this as a "They hired the best actress for the role" thing like Rick is doing with the PJO cast.
-You have Jinafire, who's Chinese.
-You have Clawd, Clawdeen, and Howleen who are black.
-Skelita who's Latin-American.
-Isi who is Native American.
-Cleo and Nefera are Egyptian.
-Holt and Jackson can somewhat be considered mixed race, I think? Correct me if I'm wrong.
Literally, the movie where they were main characters involves dealing with issues both with monsters and humans for either not being like the humans, or not being "monster enough" to some of the other monsters.
Wydonna could be casted by a black person.
Then to add to that, there's also characters with disabilities. He may not be as major of a character, but there's Finnigan, who loves to do extreme sports in his wheelchair.
Monster High does have a diverse cast, and touch on topics in a way kids can understand. So they make the Headmistress darker skinned, but Clawdeen lighter skinned?
The original reboot already angered me, bad enough they changed the original story about MH and characters and REMOVED BEST GHOULFRIEND GHOULIA-
But this-
This is a whole other level, and I feel personal disrespect. What makes them think any Monster High fan would love this? The first reboot didn't get as many fans, and it's mostly old fans who have been sticking around it. I hardly ever see kids now talk about MH.
So if this was meant to get the old fans attention and hit the nostalgia nerve, this only hits the anger nerve.
And like in a comment I saw, the original MH was horor-esque for kids. This? This just looks like your classic "Oooo. Spooopy stuff for kids!" thing. NOT the series where a character's hand pops off, where humans were so ready to publicly cut another living being into pieces ALIVE, where you basically know that Frankie had to have been living before unless Frankenstein's Monster created all the body parts in some sciencey way.
I hate everything about this. Except maybe Cleo's look? But even that still looks cheap.
I hate this with all my being. This is NOT what I grew up with. This is not the series I still loved.
