Ian's voice was unusually gentle this time. He covered his hands over mine. I was still shaking from fear, anger and shock. Ian made slow circle with his thumb over my palm. Attempting to calm me down. And it worked. My breathing got slower and my body wasn't shaking as much.
"Better?" Ian said.
"Hmm." I replied.
"C'mon I'll drive you home." He said while taking my hand and pulling me with him.
The car ride remained silent. Ian was constantly staring ahead of the road. I didn't feel like talking either to be honest. So we stayed quiet. We finally reached home.
"Aren't you getting out?" I asked Ian.
"No. I still have somewhere to go." Ian replied.
"At this hour?" I asked.
"Yes." He said.
"Where are you going…?" I asked again.
"Somewhere." He replied.
"Message received." I was thinking. He didn't want to tell me where he was going.
"Alright. Thanks for driving me.
And thank you for helping me… back then." I thanked him.
"You're welcome." He said.
I was about to leave the car but…
"Liz," Ian said.
"Yes?" I answered.
"I…" he was going to say something but stopped. Just kept staring at me.
"What is happening?" I was thinking.
"Nothing. Goodnight." Ian said a moment later.
"Goodnight." I replied.
Then I went inside home and went to sleep.
I was in my bed, sleeping. Exhaustion hit me hard. I felt so confused about everything in my life. The thing I thought about didn't make any sense and I knew I could never talk about it with anyone. And everything somehow led to only one person. Ian.
Why did all these bad things have to be connected to him? But then again there were so many other emotions. Which all led to him as well. Nothing made any logical sense and I was hella mad about it.
Again it was the next day already. I was going to school. But I noticed if his car was there. But I didn't see anything, neither his car nor him.
"His car is not here.
So he is not home… Oh my God, why am I even thinking about this!?"
I went to school, I was in the hallway. Suddenly Maeve came to me.
"Hey!" Maeve said to me with her mean voice.
"Oh hey Maeve." I replied.
"Don't come at me like that!" Maeve said angrily.
"What's wrong?" I asked her.
"What's wrong!? Did you already forget about yesterday?
Do you even know how worried I was when you were just gone?
Yeah, I looked everywhere for you. We were supposed to leave together. Fuck… I thought something happened to you." Maeve said angrily.
Maeve wasn't wrong.
"Maeve I'm sorry!
I totally forgot about that." I apologized.
"I blew up your phone, why didn't you answer me?" Maeve asked me.
"I didn't look at all, I was…" I said.
"What?" Maeve asked.
I was silent, I wanted to tell her everything but it's not a good thing after all.
"Liz, what happened?
And how did you even get home?" Maeve asked me.
"Ian drove me home." I replied.
"Say what?" Maeve said.
"I can't explain everything, but Ian saved me from a guy. I felt pretty terrible. He drove me home after that." I said.
"Are you okay?" Maeve asked me.
"Yes I am now.
I'm sorry Maeve. Really. I should have texted you. Man, I'm such a bad friend." I said.
"You are. But I still like your guts. Don't ask me why." Maeve replied.
I felt relaxed whe Maeve said she still likes me. I gave her a friendly hug.
"OMG, what's this supposed to be now?" Maeve asked because I was hugging her.
"Just suck it up." I said.
And Maeve hugged me back.
"Ok enough." Maeve said.
"By the way, did you… see him?" I asked Maeve.
"Ian? Nope.
But that's nothing unusual. He skips school on a regular basis. C'mon let's go." Maeve said and we went to the class.
Maeve was right. Ian didn't come. I can't believe I felt disappointment flooding through me.
In the next lesson, Jack came and sat next to me.
"Hey you." I said to Jack.
"Hi Liz.
How's it going?" Jack asked me.
"Pretty good." I replied, lol.
"Hey, I wanted to ask you something…" Jack said hesitatingly.
"What's up?" I asked.
"Ehm… do you maybe gpt some time tonight?" Jack said.
"Why do you ask?" I asked.
"I… wanted to ask you out for dinner… you know… like a date..." Jack said.
Wait… what!! It's not like I didn't like him. But I couldn't stop thinking about Ian and looking at his table. Where he wasn't even sitting.
"I'm pretty busy tonight but maybe another time?" I replied to Jack.
"Oh… yeah sure…
That was way too short term." Jack said but I could see his face. He got sad when I said I was busy.
School was finally over. I was driving home. I kept thinking about Jack's invitation and why I declined. Deep down I knew why but I was too proud to admit it to myself.
I wasn't that into Jack. Yeah, he was good looking and has been one of the nicest people in this town… But he wasn't him. Gosh I hate myself for that. And the moment that thought came to my head I felt so disgusted by myself. I would never have any short relationship with Ian King.
Hell, he wasn't even a least bit interested in me. More like the opposite. He was probably hooking up with some girl right at this moment. Maybe with that girl he left the party with… Images started to form in my head.
"STOP!" I said to myself.
Shit, I had to look like some maniac.
"Fuck you Ian King."
I texted Jack and told him that I changed my mind. I know the reason I did this wasn't that nice but I had to move on from this… whatever this was.
Later that night. I got ready for my date and Jack picked me from home. We went to a very fancy restaurant. Our table was reserved.
"Wow… it was beautiful here!" I said to Jack.
"I'm glad you like it." Jack said.
"Who wouldn't. But isn't it a little fancy?" I said.
"Don't worry about it. I'm just happy to be here with you…
What made you change your plans?" Jack asked me.
"Uhm… I preferred to be with you." I said.
Another lie, I'll go to hell.
"That's nice to hear..." Jack said with his shy tone.
"So, is going to a luxurious restaurant your usual dating routine to pick up girls?" I asked Jack.
"What? No, it's Not! I've never done this with anyone else!" Jack said.
"I'm just joking, Jack." I replied.
"Oh…" Jack said.
"But that's cute to hear." I replied.
We both laughed. I noticed that Jack was pretty nervous. That was actually kinda cute. I felt more relaxed that way. But I knew it wasn't good what I was doing.
During our conversation i realized more and more that this was one sided. I liked his but this was all. It was fun hanging out with him. He and I could be good friends. The problem was that this wasn't some meet up as friends but a freakin 'date.
"This is fun. I like talking to you." Jack said.
"Same here. We should hang out more." I replied.
"We definitely should. We could go to the movies next week." Jack said.
"Yeah, Maeve kept bugging me about this new horror movie she wants to see. The three of us should go!" I replied.
"Or… just the two of us…?" Jack said.
"Oh… you are right.
I need to go to the washroom, real quick." I said.
"Sure." Jack replied.
I went to the washroom.
"Shit, I'm such an idiot. I shouldn't have done this. I only did this to get my thoughts on this dickhead." I was thinking.
I came out of the washroom. That's when I noticed at a table. God, no. What I found out made me shocked.
"Please, God no…"
