Edmund

Since Peter, Susan and Cat went to America with my parents Lucy and I have been stuck living with the Scrubb's our Aunt and Uncle and their annoying child who I am unfortunate to call my cousin Eustace. It felt as if we was slaves in a house which is meant to feel like a second home as we got everything ready for our bone-idle Uncle whilst our Aunt went out.

Over the time of being here, I've had time to reflect on my future as well as Hecta and Narnia. It was hard having no way of contacting her and knowing if she was okay so I wrote to her as if she could read it telling her about my days for the past year. I had hidden them quite successfully from the Nuisance in the next bed but I had decided I wanted to fight in the war. I think I would be a good fit to the British Army and help destroy the war. The only problem was that I am 16 where as you have to be 18 to join but I had a good plan.

"Are you sure you're 18?" The soldier asked me.

"Why, do I look older?" I said with a smug smile as I handed him my detail card.

"Alberta Scrubb?" He said trying to catch me out.

"It's a typographical error. It is supposed to say Albert. A Scrubb-"

"Edmund." Lucy said making me look over at her and blow my cover. "Your supposed to be helping me with the groceries." This made the men around me laugh as the man behind me rubbed my head.

"Better luck next time, eh, squirt." He said rubbing my head making me angry due to the small age gap.

"Squirt!" I said once we had left the hall. "He barely had two years on me. I'm a king! I've fought wars and I've led armies!"

"Not in this world." Lucy said as she looked off into the distance.

"Yeah, instead I'm stuck here doing battle with Eustace Clarence Scrubb." I said whilst strapping our box of groceries onto our bike. "If anyone deserves a name." I looked at my sister hoping to get a reaction but instead she looked over my shoulder and tucked her hair behind her ear. "What are you doing?"

"Nothing. Come on then." She said as she dragged me away as I tried to see what she was looking at. We made our way back to our Aunt and Uncles and to be met with our Uncle Harold doing nothing as usual.

"Hello Uncle Harold." Lucy said as she walked past him towards the kitchen "I tired to find some carrots but all they had were turnips again. Shall I start making soup? Aunt Alberta's on her way home." No answer came. "Uncle Harold." Still no answer causing me to stick my tongue out.

"Father! Edmund's making faces at you." Eustace said from the stairs behind me as threw a spit ball making me run up the stairs.

"Why you little-" I started getting closer to him

-Fathers he's going to hit me!" Eustace said as I closed my fist aiming it near his face until Lucy shouted my name.

"It's from Susan." She said holding up a letter making us go to her room but shoving Eustace slightly first. I sat on Lucy's bed as she began to read out Susan's let to me.

"I do wish you were here with us. It's been such an adventure but nothing like our times in Narnia. America is very exciting except we never see Father. He works very hard. I was invited to the British Consul's tea party this week by a naval officer, who happens to be very handsome. I think he fancies me. Peter and Cat are as close as ever and are expected to be getting married again soon since their wedding in Narnia didn't come with a Earth marriage certificate. I think about Hecta a lot and hope she's okay so if there's any chance you end up in Narnia with her again please tell her we all miss her. It seems the Germans have made the crossing very difficult right now. Times are hard. Mother hopes you wont mind another few months in Cambridge." Lucy said as she finished reading it out. "Another few months. How will we survive."
