chapter 7

Hecta

"I doubt the lords stopped here, my liege. There's no sign of anything living." Reepicheep told as we approached our next stop on our quest to find the Lords swords.

"Right. Well, once we get ashore, take your men and search for food and water. The four of us will look for clues." Caspian told Reep making someone cough behind us.

"Hang on, dont you mean the five of us." Eustace said making me smile. I could tell he was changing his attitude and I was starting to grow fond of him. No one said anything so he tried to speak again. "Come on, please don't send me back to the rat."

"I heard that." Reepicheep said from the front of the boat

"Big ears." Eustace muttered quietly.

"I heard that too." Reepicheep said making us laugh and Eustace look to the ground.

"Of course you can." I said going up to him making everyone look at me surprised. "Just please don't do anything stupid."

We all went to our boats in order to be able to get onto the island. It looked so empty and I didn't like it one bit. We stepped onto the pebble beach and began walking to find any sort of clue. I found a hole in the ground with a rope attached to the rope. I called the others over as they looked at it too.

"We're not the first ones on this island." Caspian said as he chucked a pebble from the beach down the whole to see if it was safe. We all listened to hear it drop which wasn't a long as he thought it would be causing me to go closer to the rope.

"Well there is only one way to find out." I said as I lowered myself on the rope followed by Lucy, Edmund and then Caspian.

When we reached the bottom I looked around and saw a pond which made me really confused considering how underground we are. As if reading my thoughts, Edmund made his way over to the pond which I now noticed has a golden statue inside of it.

"Be Careful." I told him as he ripped a branch of the wall and dipped it into the water. The branch then started to change into gold making Edmund quickly let go of it and move further back.

"He must've fallen in." Lucy said as she took a closer look at the statue. "Poor man."

"You mean poor Lord." Edmund said as he pointed towards the shield which had a crest on it indicating the Lord that had fallen within the enchanted pond.

"The crest of Lord Restimar." Caspian said with a small sad expression on his face.

"And his sword." Edmund said pointing at the sword which for some reason hadn't changed and was still silver.

"We need it." I said as I began walking closer but was cut off when I heard this eerie whisper but when I looked around I didn't see anything suspicious. Edmund started to lower his sword within the water, making me hold him so he didn't fall, and put it underneath the lords sword dragging them both out of the infested water.

"Your sword hasn't turned to gold." Lucy said in amazement.

"Both swords are magical." Caspian told her as Edmund kept looking into the water.

"He must've not known what hit him." I said as I began to walk off to the exit but realised that Edmund wasn't following us.

"Maybe." He said in a voice I didn't recognise as he continued to look out into the water. "Or maybe he was onto something."

"What are you talking about?" Caspian asked taking the words straight out of my mouth. Edmund didn't answer him as he picked up a shell and dropped a bit of it in the water then dropped it on the side whilst the gold covered it. He then picked it up and admired it making me feel uneasy. "Whoever has access to this pool could be the most powerful person in the world." He looked over at us whilst we all had a blank expression on our faces. "Lucy we'd be so rich. No one could tell us what to do. Or who to live with."

"Ed, you can't take gold out of Narnia." I told him as he stood up still holding the shell and looked towards me.

"Says who." He said in sinister tone of voice that made me extra confused. Edmund has never spoken to me with that tone.

"I do." Caspian said making Edmund look at him instead and walk towards him with his sword. I knew full well this wouldn't end well so I stood in front of Lucy and had my hand over the handle of my sword.

"I'm not your subject." Edmund told him getting closer to Caspian who was trying to hold his temper.

"Guys can we not just leave and discuss this later?" I asked to be met with them both saying no at the same time whilst Lucy said yes.

"You just need to have everything dont you. Let me have this for myself for once." He said making me grew very tense I looked at both men.

"You've been waiting for this haven't you? To challenge me. You doubt my leadership." Caspian making me roll my eyes subtly.

"You doubt yourself." Edmund snarled.

"Your a child!" Caspian shouted.

"And you're a spineless sap." Edmund told him.

"Edmund." Lucy said walking up to him and grabbing his arm make his push her away making me suddenly furious.

"Show your sister some respect! She's only trying to help!" I shouted getting closer to them.

"Did you?" Edmund said to me making me taken back. Not once since I have known him has he ever mentioned what I had to do to my own sister. This isn't my Edmund.

"I'm tired of playing second fiddle. First it was Peter and now its you both. You know I'm braver then all of you. Why do you get Peters sword?" He said looking at Caspian "I deserve a kingdom of my own! I deserve to rule!"

"If you think you're so brave, then prove it!" Caspian told him pushing him slightly making Edmund pull out his sword as did Caspian has they attempted a duel. I got my sword out swung in between both their swords and swung them around until both clattered to the floor.

"Stop it now!" I said as I can see them both having regret on their faces. "You really think this is going to help then fine be my guest but I know full well you both don't want to do that."

"Look at yourselves!" Lucy shouted coming to stand in front of them both as I put my sword back on my side "Can't you see what's happening? This place has tempted you. It's bewitching you. This is exactly what Coriakin was talking about. Let's just get out of here." She said as she went to climb up the ladder whilst I watched Edmund chuck the shell back into the water were it belongs.

"Hect-"

"I don't want to talk right now." I said as I could see hurt on his face "Wait until later and we will talk about it."
