The first thing I feel are my heavy eyes. Sleep last night escaped me only twice, but that is still too much loss for me. Especially since the first time I woke with a jolt and a small cry before my mind tossed me into the pain of my wrist being sliced open- I dimly was able to make out the shady figure of Scott Walker asleep on the floor with his head resting on the edge of the sofa.

It was evident he must've sat there and fallen asleep on accident, though it makes my mind dwell on the question- how long had he been sitting there waiting for me to hopefully wake up.

He too woke with a sudden jerk since I must've kneed him in or close to the face when my first nightmare tore me from sleep, and he heard the distressed noise that forced out of me. I was too embarrassed to open my eyes and face the reality that my once normal sleeping pattern was destroyed by a weak mind, so I pretended to fall asleep very quickly.

He carried me back to my bed and tucked me in, then left to go sleep on the couch himself.

Now, I stretch the muscles between my shoulders and lengthen out my knees. Faintly I can hear Scott speaking in the kitchen area, but it's hushed and makes no sense to me. Something about statistic and new cryptic data needing to be kept safe and cracked. I assume it's his work.

Normally I'd stay in bed for a few more hours, if not the whole day, but I feel the weight of yesterday dawning heavier on my chest. I'd put Scott through so much in the past few weeks that he didn't deserve, all while he was going through his own troubles.

It doesn't magically fix everything, since I'm far too stubborn for that. It is going to be a slow thing. Until I'm ready and comfortable enough myself to accept everything. Or even talk about it.

It's going to be a horrible rollercoaster. One with many up and down moments. Last night was definitely a down. The moment Halle was picked up after Natalie Walker's shift ended, I felt myself crumble. I'd cried like an absolute baby in front of Scott. Gosh, maybe even worse than a baby.

I peel off the thin bedsheet and quietly walk across my carpet until I stand in the doorway of my bedroom, staring out into my apartment.

Scott is sitting at the kitchen island with his laptop open in front of him. His phone is pressed to his ear- clearly speaking to someone about whatever that awful and complicated looking data and other open tabs are.

He was saying something to the person on the other end of the call, but a yawn breaks through him. Scott rubs his eyes, and it's when I see how exhausted he also is. It makes it look like I had the perfect night sleep compared to him.

I am the reason that he's so tired.

Without disturbing his phone call, I quietly continue walking into my kitchen to stand on the other side of the island where my equipment all is. My back is too him, but somehow I feel those green eyes on me.
