It has been a year since Annalise Montgomery lost her fifteen year old sister Lilly in the middle of a sunny day when she was waiting in a parking lot.

I don't know how she did it. Everyday it eats at me, and I wonder why am I not like her?
Lilly Montgomery had this charm to her that made her the person she was. At only fifteen years of age, she was the most beautiful, kind, loving, and compassionate person I have ever met.
Her soul was so pure and lively that everyone loved her. I guess in the end, it was her greatest weakness. She attracted attention from everyone. Unfortunately, attention from the bad people in the world, and now I haven't seen her in nearly a year.
I watch the group of young teenagers walk past me, the four of them smiling and laughing at something one of them said. I don't know why, but I was never like them. I can't be like them.
I wasn't a social butterfly, I'm still not. I never felt happy like them unless I was with my little sister. Her personality rubbed off on me, and once she was gone, so was that warmth inside me.
"Excuse me?" I hadn't realised, but I had stopped in the middle of the isle. I was suppose to be getting groceries since my pantry is looking empty, and without knowing, I have spent a lot more time here than I should've.
The female voice is behind me. It's familiar, but I can't quite put a finger on it. If it's someone I went to school with, then I definitely don't want to turn around.
I let go of gripping my cart, and slightly turn around to see who had tried getting my attention. Isla Marshell. I didn't even know she was out of the hospital. I'm surprised to see her- or that she remembered me.
"You're Annalise, right?" She looks better now. Her bruises have faded completely away, her hair is neatly brushed, she has a navy blue dress on, and light makeup on her face.
I feel better knowing she's okay now. "Uh, yeah. How- how are you?" I never normally stumble over my words, but today, I do. I hate admitting it, but I find it unfair that my Lilly isn't where Isla is. She couldn't get away and be home with me.
"I'm good." She smiles softly. "Much better now that I'm back at home with mom and dad. How are you? I don't remember you having that patch on your head."
Oh. I had completely forgotten about the white bandage stuck to my forehead. It's only been a day since Carla had cleaned it for me. "Me? I'm, uh, good. I fell- hence the bandaid."
I guess it was the excuse I'm flying with. Scott Walker had made it up, but it's the only thing I want to tell Isla. If I said what had actually happened, I fear she may go into a panic that I'm not in the mood to deal with. It's a sensitive subject for her.
