Now that I'd had my tea, I felt wide awake. The joys of green tea and the beauty of caffeine that it contains. It does nothing to help my appearance.
I'm sure my hair is still is evident that I'd woken from a sleep when Scott arrived, and my outfit reeks of smoke from Hade's Heaven and the night club I'd worked out.
"She looks so little." I look up at Scott who had started to casually observe my apartment. Now, he's holding another photo frame in his hand, one that was resting on the empty tv cabinet.
I swallow the last sip of my tea that is so cold, I wonder why long I've been sitting here for. "She was." Our family was cursed with the 'small' gene since we are all shorter than most people our age, and get stuck with a young face.
The day I turned eighteen and purchased my apartment, I had to show everyone my ID because no one believed my age. Now at nineteen, I still look the same as a junior in high school.
Lilly was so little in every aspect. Height, weight, proportions, hands, feet, clothing size. It would be so easy to go against her in a fight. Perhaps it's another thing that made her so vulnerable in her disappearance.
Being utterly beautiful and small.
Scott Walker places the photo back down where it was. "I started making the skeleton for her case." I had wanted to ask him about it, but I forced myself not to because he had work to do instead. "Just mapping out the date, time, and the distance in time to get from one place to another so I can sift through footage, then all the tracking."
Wherever he had managed to squeeze it in his night or morning, I was amazed. "Thank you." My voice is barley above a whisper. I felt myself shut down when Lilly Montgomery had swarmed my head.
Blondie turns towards me, a small smile on his face. He walks my way and sit's himself on the sofa, about a foot distance between us. "Thank you for letting me help."
His words are broad. He means thank you for accepting his help with everything after meeting in the abandoned house.
It's almost like it's an improvement for me. Not shutting away people like I'm so use to. Well, I had done that with Scott when I first met him. But it feels weird to do that now. I'd feel terrible to say no.
I can't explain how I'm feeling. He's the only person that has seen Lilly's room here, the only person I've welcomingly let into my apartment. I don't feel uncomfortable around him like most people.
I'd even accepted Reggie Cohen- his best friend. Despite ditching him early hours of this morning, I think I could stomach being around Reggie.
"Can I ask you a question?" Scott has turned his body so he can face me, propping his arm against the back of the sofa. I nod. "It's my aunt's birthday today. Mom and I both have the day off work for it because we want to make sure my she has a good birthday since we don't know how many she has left. She's battling cancer, and it's not getting any better, in fact it was her doctor who suggested she spends today with all her family- which isn't a good sign if he says that. Before I had to come over here to check that you were safe since you weren't answering your phone, I was going to ask if you wanted to come? I can promise you that she's the complete opposite to mom. My aunt would love you."
