I never was like this. I didn't think I was the type of person who would hide. But now, as I stay crouched in a tiny cupboard holding onto the hope I have, I realise how much of a coward I am.
I've been in here controlling my breathing for at least a few minutes. I'm too worried that as soon as I make a move, he'll be waiting there with his own gun.
I've been listening to the house, trying to figure out where he is. For a while, he must of hesitated coming up the stairs. But now, I hear heavy footsteps climbing them.
I hide in the most obvious hiding space. It's worrying. This would be the first place I would check. "What the hell?" I hear the man mumble close by, and I assume it's for the pens that are scattered on the floor.
The place is that much of a dumb that I'm surprised he cares. My fingers tighten on my gun. He doesn't sound like he's walking around anywhere. If that's a good thing, or a bad thing, I don't know.
A gun shot rings in the air- it's so loud that if I wasn't so in control of my body, I would've yelled in panic. My hand clamps over my mouth to keep myself quiet.
I think he was testing to see if anyone is in the house. "Stupid fucking rats." After a few seconds of silence, he mutters his coldly and his footsteps sound like they're fading down the stairs.
He's leaving. I've never felt more relieved before. The only thing left on my mind is now I'm going to get out of this house.
Hopefully Scott and Reggie weren't idiots and tried jumping the fence. Actually, I can imagine the both of them running and screaming in panic after hearing the gun shot. The thought almost makes me laugh.
There's loud shouting coming from downstairs now. I can't make out who it is, what they're saying, or anything. It's all one big commotion out of the blue. Unless the old man is back and they're arguing.
"Put the gun down!" I manage to make out a few words, and realise that there's more than two voices in the house now. Perhaps Scott really did call his mom.
If he did, I think I should stay hiding in this cupboard. She'll arrest me for anything she can. I quickly hide my gun back in the waistband of my jeans after turning the safety back on.
There's even more shouting and footsteps, they become louder by the second. I continue staying still, deciding waiting it out is the best. Besides, I can hear someone upstairs with me, and jumping out at the mystery person would not be a smart idea on my behalf.
