I locked myself in this silent bubble a long time ago.
A car drives past me, it's engine coughing loudly is enough to make it's close call with death known. I'm surprised the driver doesn't feel risked to be driving the wrecked metal.
I realise it's my somewhat crazy neighbour Daniel. He climbs out of the midnight green bubble car with a few grunts and hazy words. I should of known the car was his.
"Do you do anything other than sit on this seat?" Daniel exclaims as he approaches me. He manages to balance a shopping bag in his hands while clipping his keys onto his lanyard. "What's so special about the seat? Is it a local drug pick up spot? I should of known that Karl boy was sharing whatever he is on."
I frown up at the dirty blonde man as he rambles about the young teenage boy- Karl, who is actually a person with special needs. "Karl isn't on drugs, Daniel." I warn and try to push aside the rudeness from his comment. "And I like this seat, I can see the whole carpark and sky."
Daniel snorts loudly and turns to look at the apartment carpark. "Don't go trying to break into my car, missy. I'll know that it was you." He points an accusing finger at me before marching towards the building entrance.
I let out a loud and frustrated sigh. My neighbour Daniel is one I can't wait for him to move. No one would even bother to break into his wreck of a car. It's practically a bomb.
I sit in silence so I can continue watching the unmoving carpark, until a new car slowly drives down the little alley-like street that only leads to our secluded carpark.
I recognise the large black car. It's very expensive- one that people like my parents would buy. Since my mother had. Her car sits behind the unmoving gate, and I can see her impatiently staring at me.
"Annalise, can you open the gate?" She shouts at me with her head hanging out the side window. In the span of a few minutes, two people have managed to earn groans from me.
I only asked for peace and quiet.
I get up from my usual spot on the bench beside a large tree that shadows my apartment building, and walk towards the boom gate. Once I reach it, I punch in my special code I have for visitors. The owners of the land had installed the new gate last month so that on the side we press in a pin and it would open for one guest car.
The red and white stripped beam lifts up and mom's silent car eases into the carpark, taking a spot towards the back. I wait beside the bench for her to join me. I had no idea that she was stopping by today- it is rare for her to do so.
"I bought the last of the boxes you asked for." Her voice is deflated, and I know it is because months ago I asked for all of my younger sister's belongings. "I don't know why you kept asking Garrett and I to bring you them. It is pointless for me to drive them across town. If we find her, she's not living with you."
