Lizzie POV

....

„Well. She told me that you never loved her." her expression fell into guilt and sadness as she glanced down to the sand beneath us.

„Not like you loved me..." I added and her head shot up again.

„Was that true? Is it a lie or did you love me?"

She just started me into my eyes not having any clue what to say or do.

„Aubrey can you please answer my question!"
I pleaded while raising my voice slightly.

„I did." she answered not saying anything else. As if those where her last words.

Aubrey POV

I wasn't thinking clearly and that's what I get from it. Lizzie simply couldn't take her eyes off of me.
My heart is beating so fast that I feel like it's beating out of my chest. I wanted to tell her this way to long and now it's out but I don't feel lighter.

Everything feels even more heavy. Because I won't know if she will be happy about it or not.

„You did? As in past tense?" she breathed out clearly still in shock.

I don't feel like I should tell her that I love her. Especially not when I'm drunk... and my breakup with Caitlin isn't even 24 hours away.

For the love of god please let us get interrupted or anything.

My phone rang and this was my cue to get distracted.

I pulled it out glancing down at it and my stomach twisted. It's from New York so it can't be good.
I glanced at Lizzie shortly picking my phone up and she just looks at me surprised that I answer that call.

„It's five a.m what on earth do you want?" I blurred out slightly annoyed.

„A glorious morning to you too Mathews. Don't blame me it's almost nine a.m in New York and I am already in my office. I didn't think of the time zone difference." Gwen answered and I glanced at the clock on my phone once again. She's right. Fucking time zones.

„Yeah I forget about the time zones. Anyway. What brings me the honor?" I asked placing the bottle down because I clearly had enough.

„It's about your dads law firm. Things are going up and down. I know you want to give it away to the new boss but you will be needed to sign some files." she explained briefly and I let out a sigh.

„Yeah when do you need me?" I asked because it was finally time to get this done after four years.

„Actually as fast as possible. Take the next flight and I'll see you tomorrow."

„Gwen tomorrow already? I'm sorry but I don't think I can." I answered because I might throw up in the plane because of my alcohol input.

„I can already smell the alcohol that you drank. I can  keep you a window until Saturday. So you have more than 24 hour. Get over that hangover and move your ass here. It's for your benefit when you get this done soon enough. Everything will be ready on Monday so you can see a bit of New York." she ordered me since she is my lawyer in this case.
