Damage

Narrator POV

The drive back to Aubrey's place went by fast.
Both didn't say much because they both where lost in their thoughts clearly not knowing where they stand at the moment.

Lizzie had to do something that will change everything and Aubrey was planning on doing the same. After their ride home they went in and Aubrey wanted to go up but Lizzie held her back.

„Where are you going?" she asked wanting to actually talk to Aubrey first.

„Pack a bag for tomorrow? I thought we where going to see your parents. Is something wrong?" she asked Lizzie who was standing there cluelessly.

„I actually wanted to talk to you about something."
Lizzie replied and Aubrey's expression changed into worry. She never saw Lizzie this out of place.
So nervous and anxious. It was clearly visible that something was bugging Lizzie's mind.

„Okay babe. I see your acting out of place what's going on? Is it because of me and what I did? I told you I'm sorry and it won't happen again. I had my reasons." she replied while they sat down at the kitchen island.

„it's not because of you. It's something else." Lizzie replied tapping with her foot up and down trying to calm herself down from her anxiety.

„Then what is it? You scare me babe. You know you can tell me everything." Aubrey placed her hand on Lizzie's leg making her stop the hectic movement.

„Aubrey. I don't think we should do this anymore." Lizzie spoke up and Aubrey chuckled at her response.

„I know I messed up but not so bad that you don't want this anymore."

Lizzie staid silent and Aubrey noticed how serious she was. She took her hand back from Lizzie creating a gap which makes Lizzie's hears break.

„You can't be serious? Liz?" Lizzie's eyes Got glossy and Aubrey didn't want to believe what was going on.

„Why? Tell me why? Is it because i beat up Robbie?
Is it because of me? Am I not good enough? Is it something I can't give you o-or do you miss anything? Elizabeth what is it? TELL ME!" Lizzie heard the heartbreak in Aubrey's voice. The pain she felt was unbearable.

„I just don't think it's meant to be-." Aubrey shock her head violently.

„That's bullshit. We are supposed to get our happy ending. What's going on Lizzie what did I miss?
What did I do so terribly wrong that you don't want to be with me anymore? I wanna know. Give me a proper reason because I was happy I know you where too. Or was it all a lie?"

„It's not because of you. Please bre-."

„No don't bre me. You wanted to go a step ahead. You wanted to introduce me to your parents. Now you tell me that it's not meant to be? What type of shit show is this? Elizabeth what is going on?"

„Can you please not raise your voice?"

„I have every right to raise my voice. You break me right now. I wanted to settle down with you. You are the only one. I thought I was the only one for you too?!" Aubrey couldn't hold her tears back and Lizzie as well. Both where breaking in so many ways.

Lizzie wanted to grab her and kiss her, tell her that everything will be fine and that she gets black mailed by Robbie but it's best to keep her in the dark.

„I'm just protecting you bre-."

„Protecting me? Protecting me from what? Damn it Elizabeth what are you doing to me?" Bre got up and moved around rubbing through her head to find any reason why she gets rejected again.

„I just need a break that's all."

„Ha a Break? This is hilarious. Look how much we've been through. Was this all for nothing?
The tears, the lies, the heartbreak and everything in between. Was it all a Game to you? Is this what you do? Build me up again just to smash it all in one conversation? Who is fishing around in your mind?"

Lizzie staid silent again knowing damn well that Aubrey is slipping away. Like sand falling out of the fingers when you open them.
Everything that Lizzie ever wanted was Aubrey.
She was everything to her. This is why she made that deal. To keep her safe and out of prison.
So that she can rather live a life heartbroken but outside of walls she couldn't escape.
Lizzie won't be able to forgive herself for breaking Aubrey like this again. But she was stuck and the only one knowing that if she tells her she will probably kill Robbie. Not that she would care about Robbie but she cares about the consequences that would follow her.

„Fine. Since you got nothing to say leave." Bre pointed to the hallway while whipping her tears away.

Lizzie was a bit taken back but she should have expected this. Aubrey's expression changed into nothingness. Lizzie never saw her like this. A face so emotionless as if she turned everything off.
Like she just switched and changed to robotic mode.

„I said leave I'm not putting up with this again.
If you come to sense then we can talk again, because I'm not giving up. Not after all these years. But I'm not capable of fighting this out right now.
So leave please."

Lizzie was stunned that Aubrey still didn't give up.
That she still wants this to work out no matter what. No matter how hard the way will get. It shows that Aubrey is a real deal. The one Lizzie should stay with until her last breath and even after.

With that Lizzie started to collect her things to leave. Aubrey watched her every step not bothering to lead her to the door. She can find her own way out and that's what Lizzie did. She stood at the door considering to leave or hang on but she gives a shit about Aubrey being free or behind bars. This was the only way to Safe her.
