To say the town was busy was an understatement. It had been jam-packed with people trying to go about their day. The first thing we had done was go to a nail salon and we all had our nails done. I just wanted something simple, so I just got pale pink nails with a black border along the top, coffin-style nails. I figured that even though we weren't pressed for time, I wouldn't go too long or do so much detailed work.
After we had all finished we walked down the rest of the mini-mall and stopped at some cute antique shops. I had found a couple of old NASCAR hats that I was sure Ryan didn't have; although I make no promises to that because he has enough hats to wear a different one every day for the next year, with some left over.
During lunch, we had talked about what we would need tonight for the party and I had offered to make a couple of small appetizer trays. With that plan, we finished our meals and decided to head over to the grocery store. Erin and Emma had our cart in the frozen food section of Walmart getting the things we needed or wanted. I had already tossed in the ingredients to make my sweet and tangy meatballs and chip dip so I wasn't too focused on what we were getting. Lisa had run off to the toy section to grab Eleanor and Louie something to play with, even after both Emma and I said she didn't have to.
She insisted though. And I'm not one to disagree with anyone, especially Ryan's mom.
She made sure to remind us during the whole day that we all needed to get Ryan something for his birthday because we all knew he hated when Christmas and it was mushed together. I understood that one, mushing them together always sucked. So I went to see about some small things, knowing that I had already packed his present in a bag that was still stashed away in the safety of my bag, already wrapped; with a card attached. He was going to love it. I had preplanned with his family and gotten everything that I needed for it before December. Thankfully Sophia was up for the job, even though she's been so busy herself. I'll admit I might have had to bribe her by promising that I would plan her whole baby shower and make it the greatest for her (not like I wouldn't have done that anyway) and she was sold. The special blanket had been made out of shirts that all of his family had picked that showed plenty of significance to them.
Coming back to everyone from my short adventure away, I noticed the birthday cake with a cute Star Wars theme placed in the center of the cake, and a couple of gel icing pens beside it; to write on it with. That was such a fun idea. I knew he would love that, the big nerd that he is.
Checking out went smoother than expected and we all chipped in to pay for the stuff we got. Getting out of the parking lot was the hard part. The snow had decided to come down in big blobs, add in the number of people coming in and out and we were taking it slow.
"Think it'll do much?" Erin asked, a slight shine in her eyes as we pulled into the driveway of the house. We had been talking about what we needed to do once we got back to our normal routines. I hadn't mentioned anything about editing the books I had written to anyone but Ryan but I did plan on trying to do one during the new year and seeing where it went.
"It looks like it's a lot of wet snow for now but it's not going to stop any time soon according to the news this morning," Lisa said, turning the wipers on as the slush falling around us started piling up on the ground. The snow from the other day hadn't fully melted but there were still patches of grass peeking through.
"Hopefully it doesn't get too bad tonight so we can leave without much of a mess tomorrow. What time do we have to turn in the key?"
Emma asked from the front seat. Erin sat beside me, trying to pay attention to both the conversation and her phone which seemed to be going off a lot today. Someone's popular today.
