Y/n pov

"Y/n Y/l/n, will you marry me?", Austin asked with a ring. I looked at Taylor then back at Austin, the clear look on her face was hateful and jealous towards her proposing brother. "I-I...", I didn't know what to say, Taylor's jaw was tightly clenched while my mother's was completely unhinged, her dream was always for me to get wedded as she told me. "....yes", I spit out, tears threatened to strike my eyes once the simple three letter word sprung from my lips heedlessly. There was no taking back what I had just agreed to, divorces are considered failure and rejection is considered insolent towards the pursuit.

I know from my sister's secret regrets; When I was little, I used to have a niche for reading and couldn't hold myself back from the thin pages of a book. So much so, that when I came across my sister, Arlene's, hidden diary, I flipped through the pages like they were the ones found in the library. However, I soon discovered how treacherous and absent marriage can be when you regret that simple 'yes' you spat out on the wedding night.

I was almost afraid to look at what Taylor's reaction may be, Was she mad? Was she disappointed? Was she sad?. I took a glance at her, and she wasn't looking at us but rather had her face down, eating her dinner. That wasn't ideal for figuring out her emotional state right now, "Well than it is! Y/n Swift!", Austin announced me and kissed me hand before sliding on the average ring. I say average not because of the value or diamonds but because of the lack of personality and individuality which I guarantee myself that Taylor wouldn't of forgotten. "Lets eat then! Toast to the newly engaged!", My father proudly cheered which gather the same cheers from my other family, all except Taylor. She didn't even look at me, "May I excuse myself? I forgot my handkerchief in the carriage I believe", she asked to my father, "go right ahead, we'll be waiting for you", he said with he brightest smile, the afterglow of the big decision hasn't wore down on him yet.

"Sorry, I think she might have trouble navigating it in our carriage, may I help her?", I asked to my father, "of course, but don't be too long, Swift", he joked which got laughs from other men at the table. I thankfully smiled and gracefully stood up before walking out of the door to search for Taylor.

"Taylor! Taylor please!", I called out for her, with no response, the only noise returning was the night crickets and occasional frog croaks. I walked around the property a bit, yet no trace. In pitty, I wondered off to the spot in the forest where me and taylor would meet up, maybe it would bring me back to our finest moments. When I got there, a chill trailed down my spine as the cold crept up on me, I was forced to fold my arms together. "You'll catch a cold", a soft voice warned me, making me turn around quickly.

"Oh Taylor- I'm not interested in what you have to say", she cut me off, "if you'll just listen- y/n leave.", she told me strictly. "No. Not until you tell me what you're thinking", I told her. "You wanna know what I'm thinking? I'm thinking, The love of my life just got engaged to my brother. I'm thinking, They might possibly move some place far away and I may never see her again. I'm thinking, she never once wanted a future with me. I'm thinking, you always knew you'd become a Swift through my brother and not me. I'm thinking a lot of things y/n", She told me, tears clearly swarming her eyes. "My hand in marriage may belong to Austin, but my love belongs to you Tay", I tell her softly. "A shared heart between secret lovers is invisible, y/n. No priest, parents, person, would ever allow us to get married", she reminded me, "maybe not. But what's invisible to most isn't invisible to all. I love you Taylor.", I repeated those words to her. "Do you?! Or are you just protecting your heart by convincing yourself that you do? Because marrying my brother sure doesn't feel like love", she told me. "I know, I know. But you do understand that my parents would be furious if I go back and reject him, right?", I said to her, and she painfully nodded. "I understand. Just whatever happens between you and my brother, promise you won't forget about me?", she held out her pinky. I linked our two pinkies together and we kissed them, "never.", I told her. "Darling, you've got a branch in your hair", Taylor said and pulled out the short twig, "oh", I chuckled when she tossed it aside. We placed a chaste kiss on eachothwrs lips before she spoke up:

"This is alright. And besides, Love is always better in secret"
