On our way to the City of Bones, none of us were talking. There's too much tension within the group and according to our trainer — my father — this is a big no-no specially when you're heading out for a mission. Feelings and distractions cannot happen when you're dealing with a life-or-death situation. Hopefully, we won't be.
'We're just here, accompanying Clary recover her memories, no one is killing anyone' is what I prayed at least.
Simon, of course is driving with Izzy in the front passenger seat to navigate the way. Clary and Jace sat by the door while Alec and I sat across from them.
Except the windshield and the back glass, this van windows are completely painted. You can't entertain yourself with the view. So, I closed my eyes and lean my head on Alec's shoulder with our hands held together. I smelled his cozy scent. It's so comfy, I almost fell asleep.
Moments later, we finally arrived at the City of Bones. Jace and Alec opened the door. Alec held his hand out helping me off the van. Clary and I then closed the door.
"Yeah. This place isn't creepy. Not at all." said Simon.
"Don't tell me you're afraid." Izzy teased.
Simon scoffs "Are you kidding me? I was born afraid." Izzy chuckles "That sounded a lot better in my head."
"Let's check it out." Alec asserted. He let go of my hand and walked away from the van.
We closely followed behind him. Alec stopped far enough that Clary and Simon won't hear us. We waited for Jace as he exchange conversation with Clary.
"Hey." Alec said, turning to Jace "If something goes wrong... if something happens to her, that's on us. You know that, don't you?"
"Yeah. And you know exactly what would happen if Valentine gets the Cup before we do." Jace said, defending his actions "She lost everything, Alec. I know exactly what that feels like. What's your problem with her, anyway? Your family always used to welcoming strays."
"You were never a stray." Alec corrected Jace.
"The point is nothing's changed..." Jace said then he looked at Izzy "...we're in this fight together..." then me "...there's just one more of us." then back to Alec.
Izzy leads the way as we head towards the entrance. I hold Alec's hand then we left Jace as he waited for Clary. We stopped by the gate, through the City of Bones while Jace warned Clary about the potential scenarios might happen when dealing with the Silent Brothers.
"I can do this." Clary trembles. She with Jace and Simon just arrived by the gate.
The gates of the City of Bones have enchantment on it that whenever mundane walks close enough, it triggers something in them which will make them afraid unless, they're with a nephilim which explains why Simon is not running for the hills.
"Yeah, you can. You're Clary freakin' Fray. You can do anything." Simon said, boosting Clary's confidence.
Simon was about to enter the gate when Jace stops him "All right, hold up."
"Surprise, surprise. No mundanes allowed. Just like in the training room, right? Wrong! I've seen every horror movie ever made and the funny best friend who gets left behind... dead man." Simon rattles in a serious tone which made me and Izzy laughed.
"You're not that funny. But by all means, go ahead." Jace said. Simon was then again about to walk "Of course the minute you enter, you'll die."
"The problem is, now I don't trust you." Simon stopped walking further from the gate.
