"Raphael...?" I whispered.

My relationship with Raphael undermines the word 'complicated'.

About five-and-a-half years ago, Raphael and I were in a relationship. It was going good until my father found out about us. I was forced to end the relationship. Though what we had only lasted for seven months... it wasn't easy for me letting him go. Raphael was my first boyfriend, my first love, my first everything, but I couldn't defy my father. I can't do that to him. After that he grounded me for months not to ever leave the Institute unless it was of importance.

I never saw him again...

...until now.

"No, he's not part of this!" Clary yells, running to Simon but Jace held her back.

"Raphael, put him down please." I begged Raphael.

"You don't talk to me, Starkweather." Raphael snapped, angrily with disgust "You lost the right to talk to me. I deserve more than what you did... you're not even human."

"Please put him down." I repeated, ignoring his hurtful remarks.

"I'll be my pleasure to kill you unless you return him." Jace said right after.

"Careful, we'd be violating the Accords" Alec warn, glancing at Jace.

"I'm afraid your sidekick's quite right. The night children have broken no laws. We're negotiating. The mundane, unharmed, in exchange for the Mortal Cup. Clock is ticking. Tick-tock, people." Raphael said then they disappeared swiftly.

"Simon... No! Simon!" Clary frantically cries, calling for Simon as the vampires vanished " Simon! Simon!"

"I still don't understand. How can you shadowhunters be better than what you call people mundanes?" Clary ranted as we entered the Institute.

Alec has not spoken a word to me on our way back here. He didn't even gave me a glance.

"Because we protect humans." Izzy replied to Clary.

We took a stop by the entrance corridor. All of us are annoyed. Even Izzy who is usually cool and cheerful.

We're really in a crappy situation.

Clary sighs "You're right. Humans. You protect humans yet you left Simon all alone in the van." she snaps at Izzy "Now Simon has been taken by your psycho boyfriend." she pointed to me "Great job, guys. You rock."

I brush my hands through my hair in frustration.

"There is some truth to the idea that human beings should have a modicum of common sense." Alec said to Clary, annoyed.

"Alec, not now." Izzy scolded.

"Look, they won't do anything to Simon. They just wanted to draw you out." Jace said to Clary, calming her "They want the Cup, and they think you have it."

"But why do they think that? Why does anyone think that? What, my mom lies to me my entire life except, and oh! By the way, there's this magic cup, I hid like the planet Bongo, but don't tell anyone..." Clary sarcastically said then she took a deep breath "...what am I supposed to do now?"

"Just stay calm. We're going to do something about this, but you freaking out, won't help Simon." I rationalized.

"We have to report to the Clave." Alec head towards the Ops Center "They have to know what we've learned about Valentine."

"What? That he's my father?" Clary glared at Alec, making him stopped on his tracks "Great. Fine. Tell them. What good does that do Simon?"

"Clary, it's all connected. The vamps want the Cup." said Jace.
