Danica Rose Millers has gone through hell on earth. She starts her internship at Seattle Grace Hospital and meets people who will change her life forever. She loves and loses and loves some more. Find out more on I've Loved and I've Lost.
"She did wh--" My statement gets cut off as I fall to the ground, slipping on my pants. "She what?" I ask as I sit up.
"She just showed up at my door and said she missed me," Callie explains from the other end, the sound of her walking around in the background.
"And what did you say?"
"Nothing. I just closed the door," I stifle a laugh at her response. "It's not funny. She's gonna be at work,"
"Ouch. Well, I slept with Jackson who likes Lexie, who's sleeping with Mark so, good times," I chuckle dryly. "What is it with me and being the second option,"
"Well, in reality, you're the first option, tell the person to go for someone else and then become the second option,"
"Shut up," I grumble as I stand up, pulling on my pants. I grab my keys, my phone, and my pager before running out of my room. "I'll see you at the hospital,"
"See ya," I hop on my bike and race to the hospital, staying within the speed limit but pushing it slightly due to being late. I quickly park and run inside. "Sorry, I'm--late?" It comes out as more of a question due to a few people crying and others looking at the tv concerned. I walk forward a bit and turn so I can see the tv.
"A gunman has opened fire on students..." My brain blocks out the rest of the reporter's words as the sound of a gunshot rings through my ears as the sight of Derek falling to the ground flashes before my eyes.

Danica POV
Before I know what's happening, everything goes south, faster than I thought possible. Ambulance after ambulance show up, all with major trauma patients. I walk into the pit, approaching Owen who's currently staring at the tv. "Do--"
"Doctor Hunt. I'm free. Do you need me?" I turn and see Alex, he's in a scrub cap and coverups.
"What?" Owen asks, sounding dazed and far off.
"Do you need one of us? We're both free," I repeat Alex's words.
"They just found another classroom full of victims," He informs, gesturing to the tv.
"Jesus," I mumble, holding my hand to my heart.
"We're getting at least a dozen more,"
"Crap," Alex mutters.
"We're out of O.R.'s,"
"What do you mean we're out of O.R.'s?"
"We're out of O.R.'s, we're out of space. And all the other hospitals are at capacity. If any of them need surgery, we're," He turns and looks back at the chaotic E.R.
"We're screwed," My voice is barely above a whisper as Owen's words sink in. We start prepping the E.R. so that we can do surgeries on the incoming patients, due to all the O.R.'s being occupied.
"This is bullshit," I grumble as I walk over to Owen who's currently talking to Jackson.
"Alright, go to the emergency room. There is incoming. Dani, go with him," Owen, instructs his eyes catching me.
"Sure thing," Jackson and I walk off towards the emergency room. "So, you seem pissed,"
"Yeah. Altman is using a perfectly good O.R. to work on the damn shooter," If this were a cartoon, steam would be coming out of his ears.
"Misericordia," I mutter. "She's showing him mercy. He may not deserve it but she's showing him mercy. She's fixing him so he can spend the rest of his life in prison. Letting him die would be letting him win and get off scot-free,"
I then split up from him and put on scrubs and gloves before going to assist other patients. "Jesus," I mutter at the sight of the mosh pit. Plastic dividers and multiple beds with open patients. The chances for cross-contamination are so high it makes goosebumps rise on my skin.

Danica POV
As the day comes to a close, everyone gathers to the gallery in the O.R. Cristina and Teddy are in. We watch as Teddy pokes the heart lightly, waiting for it to continue beating. It's like a breath is released from everyone's lips at the fact that no one died. Not even the shooter. "We saw twenty-six patients. Twenty-six victims. And we had no casualties. No one died today,"
Without even realizing it, a tear falls down my cheek as quiet, breathy sobs escape my lips. No one died. No one died. The next thing I know, everyone looks at one another and we all begin laughing. Joyus, happy laughing. I bend forward as my stomach begins to hurt at how hard we're laughing. I wipe the now happy tears from my eyes as laughter fills the gallery room.
"I hate this place," We all laugh even harder at Stark's words as he gets up and leaves. The Chief gets up and stands next to Arizona.
"I was holding a grudge. I can hire you back, but you're gonna have to work under Stark," He says with a smirk, patting her shoulder before leaving. At the sight of her face, everyone continues to laugh. And this is what I love about Seattle Grace Mercy West. Even in the sight of chaos and calamity, we always manage to push through and have a laugh.
This is a filler chapter T - T that's why it's so short.
