Felix

Yes, but have you seen her since?

My mother's words were rolling around like balls in my mind. Each of them hitting a nerve. She was right, I was afraid to go see her. I was afraid that this was my fault. That I hadn't gotten there soon enough. Hell, I'm still afraid that she'll blame me.

But tonight I decided to see her. I couldn't give her the sketchbooks I bought for her now, so I went and bought one more thing for her.

It was cold and clear. The skies were lighting up with a million stars. It was a night I thought about her a lot more. Her eyes, her wicked tongue and her smile. Everything about her has seeped into every crevice of me. How does one detox themselves from this feeling? I'm not sure if it's the love I have for my mother or the love I have for my favorite book. It's different and it's almost frightening.

I asked Marinette and Adrien to watch Kagami for the time being, but knowing them they didn't stay overnight. I wasn't expecting them to, but I am glad that Kagami has someone around while her mother is gone.

I'm standing right outside the hospital doors watching the clock on my phone show the time I need. For tonight the rule I'll break is visiting hours. The nurses can kick me out, but not before I give her this birthday gift. Not until this necklace is latched around her neck. For when she wakes, she'll wonder what it means and I'll know she's mine.

I slide through the front doors and make my way to the elevator. I know Fredrick the security guard goes out for a smoke break at least five times a day. The only reason I know is because they were at such odd times during the day. He always goes at eleven-eleven., (he said it was "good luck"), the next time wasn't until one-twenty three., he said and I quote, "one, two, three is the best numerical sequence!" It was quite odd, but whatever makes him content as he slowly kills himself. This is the reason why I know that he would be out of his chair at ten-eleven.

I walk up to his desk and see the volunteer badge on the left of his desk that he would hand visitors in order to open up the doors. I scanned the badge and walked straight in. It was simple as that, my only problem is that I'll have to get the badge back before ten-thirty. That's the hard part.

For now Kagami is my mission and Mrs. Tsurugi has left the country for some meeting she couldn't postpone. I haven't seen Kagami's father since my first encounter with the bastard. It took him a few days to fucking arrive and when he did he tried to act like he knew is own daughter. Jackass.

The walk is cemented into my brain and before I know it I've arrived at her door. My hand grips the handle and I push it open. Kagami's laying so celestially, as if she's not of this world. Even in the moonlight, asleep she's beautiful.

My legs walk me over to the left of her and I can't help but push a small strand of her hair away from her face. I can still see her freckles and my lips ache to kiss each one. I lower myself onto the chair and grab a hold of her hand.

"'It gets better with time.' That's something I hear a lot of lately. Although no one talks about the time you are in. It feels long and empty. It's cold and angry. It's sad and devastating. I'm not sure what to do with it." I lower my forehead to the top of her hand.

"My mother is dying, my father is gone and now you're here." The bitter laugh escapes my lips, "Is it me? Do you think it's me?" I sigh and breathe in once more.

"I got you something for your birthday. I realize I never gave it to you and I was upset that I didn't. I do think you'll be able to know what it stands for, but I didn't want it to be easy for you." I grab the necklace from my pocket. It's a silver chain with the name "Felix" in morse code.

I slide the necklace around her neck and use the metal clasps in the back to secure it. It gleams against her skin and for once I feel a genuine smile stretch across my face. I lean over to her ear and say with a whisper.

"In case you forget." I give her a kiss on her forehead and leave her room.
