Adrien
"The doctor should be on the way. I'll go get you some water though." I hear the nurse say as I walk in through the door and she walks out.
The moment I walk in, I see what looks like Kagami sitting up. She's no longer laid back against her pillow with her eyes closed. She's awake and it takes me a few moments to accept that.
As Marinette pulls Kagami in, I can't help but notice Kagami's vacant eyes. I've never seen her so unsure of herself, let alone detached. For as long as I've known Kagami, uncertainty hasn't been within her vocabulary, but right now it seems to be her whole world.
Marinette pulls away from the hug and leans towards Kagami's ear. It's so quiet that I strain to hear what she says.
"What day is it to you Kagami?" She asks with such tenderness that it is so palpable.
It took me a while to notice Marinette and the respect she had for others. It took too long and I was an idiot for allowing Chloe to diverge me. It wasn't until I saw just how much Marinette cared for her friends, that made me drawn to her. It wasn't until she asked me what I wanted in my own life that I couldn't wait for the next day to see her. It wasn't until Kagami put it into words that I never looked at her the way I looked at Marinette. It was then that I realized that I fell in love with her.
I finally found the courage to ask her.
I finally made a move and now here I am staring at this girl. This amazingly kind person.
How did I get so lucky?
I see her eyes focus on Kagami, but her brows push together and something about it brings me back to reality. Her eyes finally pry off of Kagami and stare at me.
She's scared, but not of Kagami. In fact it seems like she is scared for Kagami.
"Hey, I came as soon as you called." I tell Marinette, hopefully easing some of her worry.
"I got you a bagel with cream cheese and a banana. I wasn't sure if you fed yourself yet." She smiles and releases Kagami's hand.
"Thank you. I'll eat those in a minute." She places them to the side and grabs my hand.
"Kagami, look Adrien came to see you. Why don't you two talk and I'll find someone to call your mother." I feel Marinette's hand squeeze my own. A bit hard I might add.
I'm about to ask her if she could lighten the squeeze until I stare at Kagami and notice how her eyes are shifting as she stares at the floor.
"Kagami?" I say with a whisper.
"Where is my mother?" Her voice is so quiet, but demanding.
"She's- uh she's away. She had something come up." Marinette says with hesitance in her voice.
"I need my mother. I- why am I-" Tears begin to fall and I'm taken aback.
"I'm sure the doctors and nurses have called already, but I'll double check for you." Marinette reassures her as she nudged me over to take her place.
Kagami begins to hug herself as her breathing quickens. Her whole body begins to tremble and I hear the monitor beep rapidly.
"Nurse!" Marinette shouts out as she runs out the door to find someone.
I kneel down on the ground for her to focus her gaze on me. Her hand begins to play with the necklace. Her eyes slowly find my own.
"Do you remember the first day we met?" I ask.
