Era's POV

All my awkwardness evaporated when I was asked to "shoot" my questions.

"Why do you all have blue eyes?" I asked. " and why do some people have eyes of dark blue shade?"

I saw Mihir giving a something to Nisha as she winked at him. Perhaps it was their currency. Maybe they had a bet on my questions.

"Didn't I tell you she is observant?" Nisha laughed and Mihir simply nodded as he snickered.

"Well, people who are married or engaged or committed over here have darker shade of eyes." Mihir laughed at his own joke.

Nisha this time pulled his ears and Mihir shouted with pain.

"Don't listen to him. Its just his observation." Said Nisha.

"But trust me my lady, this observation is 100% accurate. You will find It true if you care to notice." he smiled.

"Actually," Neel said "for some strange reason, people who live here for more than half of the year or are born here have blue eyes. As we grow older, our eyes turn shade darker. Until its almost black. People here do not age once they enter their youth or their aging stops when they start to live here, in case they belonged to the outer world. However, as they grow older, their eyes turn darker. Its the only indicator of our age."

"So does it mean that my eyes too would turn blue once I become the citizen?" I asked.

"Yes. and once you start growing older, their body won't show any signs of aging except changing the color of your eyes." Said Nisha.

"Though I doubt that would happen." muttered Mihir, grumpily.

Neel shot him a sour look.

"Don't look at me like that. Even you know that its almost impossible to induct her into our world. The counsel is already angry because you allowed her to enter our world and told her our secret. They are contemplating of erasing her memory." Mihir couldn't help but vomit the truth.

I was beyond shock. What would happen with me? No. I really wanted to be part of this place. I would do whatever it takes. For the first time in my life, I felt like I had a purpose. Apart from writing, of course.

"I will do whatever it takes to be the part of this world. I request you to allow me to meet the Council. ",I spoke up. For the first time, I was desperate to escape my world. I knew divorce would raise a hundred of questions. Society would blame me. Staying here would give me a peace of mind. And some mental strength.

"I...I don't think you are ready for that yet." Said Neel and I looked at Mihir and Nisha. They all were dead serious this time.

"I don't care. Even if they reject, I want to know where do I lack." I was surprised of my tone. That had never ever happened before.

All my life I was labeled average. And I was glad that I never came into the category of worst. I was an average student, average looking woman, average housewife (nay, call me a failure. My husband is planning to leave me). No I am not seeking any sympathy. I am seeking your wishes. Because even before meeting the council, I knew I had to be the best of best. This town was filled with the achievers.
