Era's POV
"But..." I almost pleaded.
"I am sorry Era. As much as I loved the idea, the council won't permit the idea of including the dancing or drama or karaoke in the event. We will decide collectively and let you know by the next Monday!" said Aisha.
I looked at Mihir, Nisha and Neel. The event was in the tonight (i.e. Sunday) and we couldn't wait for the permission. We all were so excited to perform the drama in front of hundreds of people. Well not everyone actually...
"I love you Nisha, I have loved you since we were kids!" Mihir had struggled to read his script while Nisha had difficulty to keep a straight face.
"Am I not born to be an actor?" Mihir boosted and we all had grinned at each other.
"He was made to be a clown, he does a lot of overacting." Nisha had tried to text me but Mihir had seen it. Since then he was unsure about the drama part.
So? yes, back to the present.
"Can't you do anything about it Aisha?" I asked her.
I knew she had a small soft corner for me.
"No. All I can do for now is to authorize you to play some kind of song in background. Other members of the council too would be present. The song must not played too loud enough that I fall into trouble." she almost requested me.
That was okay. For now.
We all came out of the office. I had came up with a brilliant idea. I decided to head for a stationary shop for the event as Neel assured me to reimburse me the event expenses the next day. As we all parted, I went to the shop to buy colorful plain papers. Unfortunately, they didn't have them. All they had was white papers. All ruled. I asked for the sketch pens but they had only three inks. Yes, you guessed it correct. Black, red and blue.
"What about the other colors?" I asked. The shopkeeper looked at me as if I was an alien.
"I am new here." I clarified without him asking.
A look of understanding came into his eyes.
"Colorful sketch pens are used for highlighting the documents administrative purposes. The highly confidential ones. Only the Councils are allowed to use them here." he explained.
I brought a diary (so that I could easily tear its pages) and a box of blue pens. The unavailability of colorful pens didn't hamper my excitement. But one second. Who will announce the game to the fellow townspeople? I had been active in the event management since my college days. However I never took the center stage. I worked hard and used my ideas but always allowed the leadership to take the credit. I wasn't a people person. I had always been too shy. Since Neel was in the leadership, I would ask him to explain the rules. He could take the credit. I just want to make a make a small yet impactful difference in the lives of people here.
As I was walking towards the direction of my home, I saw Nisha cycling in my path.
"Hi Nisha! what are you doing here?" I asked her.
"Hop in lady! We are going to your place."
I sat behind her cycle while I almost heard her grumbling
" Someone needs to learn how to get ready."
