Neel's POV

"Ma'am, lets talk about your professional achievements." Said Al, his tone now more respectful. I was glad that Era had now dared to show her bold side, which she never knew was capable to exist. I had hidden some truths from her. But I had my own reasons.

It was frustrating because I couldn't show my emotions to her. I so badly wanted to hug her tight when she faced the trail about her failed marriage. But she was simply strong. Just like I wanted her to. I wanted her to hold her ground like she did in the previous questions but her career assessment was tough. Seriously tough. Though she had managed to slog off and catch up her other intern co-workers, I was seriously doubtful if she had done any substantial progress in her field.

"Hello, yes, its me Satya Oza." a voice called out and for some reason, I felt a wave of assurance washed over me. For some reason, I always thought that Era's boss had a soft corner for her.

Everyone followed his figure as he as took up the stage, his aura commanding the attention of everyone including Al, whose presence seemed to be dwarfed around Satya Oza's experienced self.

"Hello, I am Era's boss." He said and the whole crowd roared. Satya sir was the Editor in Chief of the only newspaper the whole town relied upon to get news regarding their beloved land.

"What do you think about Era's work? We, the Council have been keeping a close eye on her work but getting inputs from you would be an honor." Said Al as he handed over the microphone to Satya sir.

"Hardwork beats talent when talent doesn't work hard." said Satya sir. "Era is the most hardworking employee that I had ever worked with."

The whole crowd cheered with his response. Perhaps they too were tensed like me.

"So do you mean that Era is not talented?" asked Al. Damn, Al. How could he even pick up something like that from the quote?

"When did I say that Era is not talented?" Said Satya sir, visibly irritated. "Era joined our organization when the other interns were miles ahead of her. She still managed to work hard and catch up with the others while managing to introduce fresh ideas to the team. She is talented and also hardworking. I am glad that she WAS the part of the organization."

Was? What does "was" mean? is he firing her? I looked at worried face of Era and she too seemed to catch the word in between the lines.

"Are you firing her?" Al smirked.

"No, I am transferring her to the Editing group of the Books Publication section,. Like I had said earlier, she is talented but her talent lies in creating fiction." Said Satya sir proudly looking at Era who seemed to have tears of joy.

That's true. I had read her diary that was also the manuscript of a book where a blind girl sees the world for the first time. It was heartfelt and filled with loads of positivity. I wished everyone in the city could read it.

"But she hasn't done anything substantial or left her mark career-wise in the three months." protested Al.

"Who said she hasn't done anything substantial in the three months?" smiled Satya sir. He removed a small book from his briefcase and showed it to the crowd. The book cover look quiet familiar.

"I would like to present to you the first copy of "The Colorful Place" written by Era, edited and published by the Cerulean City Publications." he showed the book to the crowd and everyone was overjoyed. Then I realized, the book cover was the picture that Vikram managed to capture on the day of the Ice Skating event.

"Young lady, you should thank Vikram and his father for allowing you to use their photo for the cover." said Satya sir and Era promptly wiped her tears of happiness and touched the feet of Satya sir and thanked Vikram and his father on the microphone. They waved back from the audience.

It felt like the battle was almost won. It was time for the private meeting of the Council Members to announce the verdict.

"The Council would like 25 minutes to discuss the verdict as a part of customary practice." announced Aisha as we all the members gathered to move towards the backstage. I looked at Era who held a fair amount of eye contact with me. I just nodded and joined the other members. She probably didn't know badly I wanted to hug her and tell her that everything would be fine.
