Era's POV

"I am sorry for being a cheater. But I promise this divorce would make our lives easier," said Deep as he loosened his tie.

I was disgusted by his presence. I was a loyal and faithful wife and often craved for his love. Though I would compose mushy poems and write stories when it came to vocal expressions, I lacked. So I used to cook his favourite meals, or weave him a woollen sweater or do any small or big acts of care. That was my way of expressing my love.

My mind kept on running to what Neel had said while answering my final question. A layer of a blush crept on my face as I remembered his words.

"I will take the lawyer's appointment tomorrow," said Deep as he got busy on his phone. Perhaps he was talking to his love.

I couldn't believe that I failed in my marriage. I was the kind of person who always wanted a happy married life, two kids and a dog. I wondered how my parents and in-laws would react to that. Thankfully they had decided to extend their stay.

I went to the balcony after serving dinner to Deep. I started taking deep breaths to avoid the panic coursing through my body. As a distraction, I remembered Neel's answer.

"The reason I am so curious of making you a fellow citizen of this town dates back to our childhood." he had spoken up.

"Do you remember how you found this ring?" he pointed out the ring I was wearing.

"Yes, I found it outside the storeroom." I admitted.

"It was my great-great grandfather's ring. We had this tradition of gifting this ring to the wife of the eldest heir of the family." he tried to keep a straight face.

"It was in the possession of my mother. One day while rummaging her dressing table, I saw it and tried to wear it in my small five-year-old fingers. I was so happy wearing that, I didn't even tell my mother that it was with me. However, that day, while playing in the sand, it slipped off my fingers and fell near the portal door that was open. I still remember the day. It was the day when my father had opened the door of the storeroom. The ring slipped out and you found the ring. You wore it and started playing. We aren't allowed to move in and out of the portal except with the permission of the council.

I stared at that ring helplessly while you became busy playing with your doll. You went away then. After that I would see you during the vacations, playing on the third floor's terrace. But the protocols never allowed me to ask you to give it back to me.

I told everything to my family. While my parents were furious, my grandpa joked that you were my soulmate and bride and that was the reason why the ring chose you." Neel had blushed deeper as he said the final words.

I looked down at my table and we didn't speak anything to each other. There was an uncomfortable silence for some moments. Later Neel escorted me out of the portal. We big the farewell.

"I have been fascinated by you ever since the day you held that ring," he spoke up and turned to close the door of the storeroom (ie the portal).

I wondered when would I get to meet him again and ask him other few sets of questions about the magical place hidden from the world!

"Timmmmmmmm"

I heard the sounds of falling stainless steel utensils. I had a habit of making coffee for Deep after the dinner. Primarily because of three reasons. First, I made the best coffee in the world and Deep loved it. Second, it was my way of showing Deep that I cared about his smallest of needs. And last but not the least, it made me hopeful of striking conversation with Deep and bringing us closer as husband and wife. However it all depended upon his mood. Sometimes he would talk to me for a few minutes and go to sleep and other times he would never talk to me. And then go to sleep.

But today was different. I had no enthusiasm of doing anything special for him. I was tired and couldn't stop thinking about the world I was introduced in the first half of the day. I wanted to be part of that land. The place that made me feel calm and happy at once.

I took my quilt and went to sleep after ignoring the repeated questions of Deep about the location of the coffee powder, and he was busy trying to find them.
