“Iris, I may be afraid for the first time in centuries.” Iris could have sworn she heard Rue’s voice say, despite Rue not being with her tonight. “I mean, they couldn’t banish me completely, everything would fall apart. But they could cast me out with only a trickle of my power left.” The voice continued. “Nyour father counts on an actual deity’s help for this mission, not a deity who’s been banished. So I’m sorry, but I have to leave, if I don’t, nyou’ll all perish on nyis mission, so nyerefore I say my goodbyes.” Iris sat up just in time to see Rue, knapsack full of their belongings climb out the window. “Wait, Rue, That’s not true.” Iris said, scrambling towards the window. “I’m sorry, Iris.” Rue replied simply as Iris’ world turned black and she fell back onto the floor unconscious. “Iris, wake up dear.” Hearthgon’s voice echoed through the walls of Iris’ subconsciousness. “Father I had the most awful of nightmares, Rue left in it.” Iris said, opening her eyes and seeing the open window. “It wasn’t a dream, was it?” She asked, tears starting to feel her eyes. “It’s okay dear, the deities of this world have their own unique ways of doing things.” Hearthgon replied, coddling Iris. “You don’t get it do you?! Rue wasn’t a full deity, they were a deity that got banished, a half powered deity if even that, and even though they were, they still joined our cause, made us believe them.” Iris cried, crawling closer to her father. “I should have never have introduced that plan, if I had known what I know now, I would never have suggested that this group could pull it off.” Hearthgon muttered, tears welling in his eyes as well. “No, I’ll still go.” Iris said determinedly. “Iris, I can’t let you do that, you know that.” Hearthgon replied. Pushing away from her father, Iris flung herself out the window, flapping her dragon wings hard to cover as much ground as possible.
