"Commander?" "Mh?" I turned around to see Falco standing there, who had dragged an injured solder from no man's land back into the trench. "He needs medical care but the infirmary are too far away." I squatted down, looking over the mans injuries before starting to get the bleeding to stop. "Commander Ana?", Falco asked while I was still stabilising the man. "Yes, what is it?" "Why are you trying to protect us all the times? Trying to not unnecessarily sacrifice the Eldian soldiers. Shouldn't you think they're filthy devils?"
I chuckled a bit. His question seemed so innocent. Falco in general had a big heart, he didn't seem as affected by the propaganda against Paradise. "Well, I have a family back home that's also from a country hated by Marley and most other countries. A husband and a daughter. I suppose... if Marley was wrong about them, they're probably also wrong about you Eldians." He nodded slowly, as I finished treating the man. "Let's bring him somewhere safer, no?" The blonde boy got up, helping ke carry that man to the side of the trenches where as the injured soldiers were.
"Well.", Falco spoke up again. "I hope the war ends soon so you can go back to your family. I beg you miss them." "Everg second of ever day.", I replied. As we got back to the other warriors, Gabi was already running over to us, holding up somethig she'd made. A bomb. "I'm gonna crawl across no man's land and destroy the trunk train." "They'll see you." But I knew I couldn't get her off this plan so, since she insisted, I sent the other off to help in the infirmary while her and I perfected the plan.
"If they see you anyway, you gotta act like you're not a threat, that's easy because you're a child." "I could take my uniform off and walk with my hands up as if I was surrendering.", Gabi suggested. "And if we add a little loop to fix it around your ankle, they won't see the bomb until its too late." The girl across from me nodded eagerly as we added a thin rope to the bomb. "If something goes wrong, I'll be out there to get you within seconds."
General Magath was about to order another attack on the trunk train which woukd probably end in nothing again when we arrived and Gabi told him the plan. "And you approve of this?", he asked, looking at me with narrowed eyes. "I helped make the plan. It has a bigger chance of success than sacrificing hundreds of soldiers again." The general sighed at my reply but finally agreed. The others came over short later, just to see Gabi already climbing out if the trench.
I pulled Falco over, looking at him for just a second before going back to watching Gabi. "If something goes wrong, I know I won't be able to stop you from running out to get her, so we'll include it in the plan. If somethig really does go wrong, you go get Gabi into one of the craters, I will have your backs by shooting the soldiers at their main sniping points and then get the two of you." From the corner of my eye, I saw Falco nodding along to what I was telling him.
Gabi had already fallen to the ground, so I reached for my rifle. We were just waiting for the train to be in the right spot now. A loud bang and the train was thrown off the tracks. By the time the first shot sounded, Falco and I ran out of the trench. I reached my shooting distance first, aiming at the soldiers who were distracted by Gabi. I shot twice, hitting both men in the first tower. Then the second, then the train. Falco pulled me into the crater along himself and Gabi as Galliard and Pieck appeared taking over the fight from there on.
The air attack should start any second too, which was the reason why we did the attack on the train now. We didn't see all that was going down because I had to get Gabi and Falco back into the trench. But due to the destroyed train, Galliard and Pieck were able to attack the enemy trenches while the air attack let titans rain down onto the fortress. We only heard all the commotion going on. General Magath informed us later that the fortress went down as well as the military harbor behind it. The war was over and we'd go home.
Home.... didn't seem like I'd be going home anytime soon. Now that the war was over I voukd start looking for Eren again, u didn't think of going back before finding him. We were on the train he next day, soldiers were celebrating and drinking, while I sat with the higher ups in a different compartment. Reiner was there too, who always gave me this weird look, I could tell he was trying to remember something.
"Do I know you from somewhere, Commander Srijokowitsc?", he finally asked. "Well of course, we met at the front lines quite a few times after all. Don't you recall?" "I feel like I know you from somewhere else. Your voice seems familiar.", Reiner replied. He didn't sound suspicious but rather like he was doubting his own memory. I was playing with his head again, hoping to guide him on a wrong path that didn't lead to me in paradise. "Maybe from a dream.", he mumbled, ace scrunched.
"Oh you dream of me, I'm flattered.", I replied chuckling, successfully embarrassing him so that he dropped the subject. When reaching the haven city in Marley again, I moved into the apartment that Kiyomi had bought me. She was already there with hot tea by the time I arrived. "It is so nice to see you, Miss Ackermann. I am glad you are alive and unharmed.", she said smiling as she saw me. "Good day to you too. And thanks for organising me a place to stay in. I hope you're not planning a long stay for me."
