Anastasia
Levi and I were at the orphanage the day before the mission to reclaim Shiganshina. It was late afternoon when we slowly had to leave. "But you will come back Thursday, right?", Maggie asked while hugging me. "Well, the survey corps will take a little trip and that might take longer than three days. But I promise we will come by as soon as we get back, yeah?" "Okay." I hugged the little girl really tight before she ran over to Levi, hugging his leg as a goodbye, while I was still sitting on the floor. Levi also said his bye and pulled me up by the hand.
We left the building after telling Historia that we were going back as well and I let out a sigh. "I just hope everything goes smoothly. I'd hate to leave Maggie here alone if something were to happen to us." He squeezed my hand, before replying: "Nothing will happen, I'll make sure of it, don't worry. Little Maggie won't be alone." Back at the headquarters, we attended dinner with the others and were about to go to bed, but when Erwin and Hanji had left the squad suddenly stood at our table.
"We want to talk.", Eren said. "We? Totally his and Jean's ideas, Sasha and I would be fine wirhout this conversation.", Connie added nervously. But Jean chimed in, sitting down, pulling Sasha and Connie with him: "Oh come on, we agreed to do this." The others sat down too, as Levi raised an eyebrow. "What do you want?" They all looked at eachother before finally settling on Eren, silently deciding that he'd talk. "We want to know why Ana is so good at killing people." I could tell Levi was gonna say something to tell them off but I squeezed his hand under the table, before looking over at Eren again. "Go on."
"Well, I wasn't there so..." "Back in Trost, when we were fighting Kenny and his people or in the cave. Well... it was a bit scary how fast you did all this and how the captain seemed to know about your... skills. What we actually came here to ask about tho is the blonde woman. The one who called you a trained assassins." I nodded slowly, listening to Jean explaining what they wanted to know and I could understand why they were curious. In fact, I'd been waiting for them to ask and was confused why they took so long.
"She told the truth." I took a deep breath. "I am... as she called it, a trained assassin. Have been ever since I was a child. There's not much more to know other than that I was raised that way and didn't have a choice in any of it. I'm not... some serial killer taking people out for fun and I've always hated doing it." They all looked at me for probably a minute, I think they were expecting me to deny everything, find an excuse but as my teammates, they deserved to know.
"If there's any questions I'm always open to answer. If you're fighting by my side you have a right to know things like these." "So... if we really end up in a war with other people now, you'll probably have to teach us some things.", Eren asked carefully and I nodded. "Well, I think that was information enough for one evening. Off to bed everyone.", Levi then said. Making everyone leave.
We went up to the dorm some time later too and went to bed. Levi atually managed to not get up in the middle of the night for once so by the time we'd get ready for the mission to start, everyone was well rested and prepared. Him and I stood by the horses, when Hanji came over, putting an arm around my shoulder with a force that made us both fall forward just a bit, but she caught herself and just talked anyway. "So how's our parents doing?", she asked, smiling. "What?", I asked her. Levi looked at me. "Are you-" "No. Of course not. Hanji, what are you talking about."
"I mean little Maggie.", Hanji explained. "We're not her parents, four eyes.", Levi replied, having recovered from the shock. "Yes, we just visit every few days to make sure her and the other kids are okay." But Hanji just started laughing. "No no no. Historia says, Maggie calls you Mommy and Daddy to the other children. Saying 'her parents come by' everytime you two visit. She's just too shy to say that to your faces."
"Really?", I asked and Hanji smiled proudly. "So, congrats to you two. You're parents now." Levi and I were still silently staring at eachother, but his gaze had softened. My attention was drawn by a few gasps just some meters away. The squad had walked by at just the wrong moment and heard Hanjis sentence completely out of context. "You-", Eren started but never finished his sentence.
"No, we're not.", I tried to explain, luckily Levi jumped in to help me. "Hanji's talking about a girl from the orphanage that we visit every now and then." The others nodded slowly, but then Connie asked: "But, to be parents you two would need to be togeth-... hhhhh." He stared at us, mouth wide open. "Wait, you-" Eren started but Armin stopped him by putting a hand over his mouth. "Thats none of our business and we have bothered you enough so we will leave now and get our horses ready.", the blonde boy said, pulling Eren, Mikasa followed short after and then Jean dragging Connie and Sasha with him.
"To be honest, I kinda thought they knew.", I said, more to myself than the two around me. "I thought so two.", Levi replied.
