The day had finally, I was pacing back and forth in the back room, fixing my dress over and over again probably for the 50th time by now. Hanji would be walking as one of the first people along Mikasa right after Levi, usually there would be some people walking before him but since these people (like grandparents or my mom and his father) weren't here or alive Levi was the first to walk. When the music started, Hanji and Mikasa gave my one last reassuring squeeze before walking out.
Maggie, in her flowy little dress would be the flower girl and therefore the last peron to leave before me. Somehow, I really don't know how, the team had insited on walking together as ring bearers. Don't ask me who had this idea and who agreed to it, I sincerely do not know. From where I was standing could hear the music slowly leaning towards my appearance. Maggie had already gone out, throwing the flower petals, while I was mentallly preparing myself, taking one last deep befoe the door opened and I went out.
I could see all the people looking at me, Maggie had just arrived at the front and now stood next to Jean, holding his hand, I looked over Hanji, Mikasa, the ring bearers group, Historia standing in the middle of everyone at the front and next to her... Levi, wearing his back suit, looking handsome as always. I could see him straightening up when seeing me, not in a tensing manner, tho. I walked up to the front, praying with every step that I wouldn't trip.
Before I knew it, I had reached the front, standing next to Historia and Levi, who reached for my hands. I could hear Historia giving her officiate speech, but I didn't register the words. Like they went in one ear and out the other. My focus was solemnly on Levi in front of me and the fact that there were dozens of people staring at us. I heard myself say "I do" without fully registering. It was Levi's voice that snapped me back to reality. "I do."
I finally heard Historia again, really heard her, as Jean came over with Maggie, who was holding the ring pillow. After we'd put them on, Hestoria spoke again: "By the power entrusted to me, I pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride." I knew Levi wasn't usually big on public display of affection, tho he made an exception this time, pulling me in by the waist to kiss me.
If someone told me before I got here, or even after that I'd get married, ever, I would've probably laughed at them, but here I was, walking back down the aisle with Levi next to me, behind us Mikasa and Hanji, then Jean and Maggie, Connie and Sasha and Eren and Armin at the back. When we reached the back of the hall, Maggie came running over to us. "Mama! You look soooo pretty." "Hey my sweet. Now, you look great too, who bought this beautiful dress?"
She giggled, fidgeting with the hem of her skirt. "Auntie Hanji did.", she said smiling. And as if we summoned her, Hanji came over, ruffling Maggie's hair. "Never seen Levi smile this much, it must be a record.", she said. "And we have it on camera." Levi's face dropped as Hanji said that. "On what?", he asked. "On camera, you know this thing that makes photographs. And even better, this picture of you two will be put in our history books as the first picture taken on this island.", Hanji explained cheerfully.
"Don't you dare, four-eyes, don't you dare.", he threatened. "You can't call auntie Hanji that, that's a bad word.", Maggie protested, reminding Levi of her presence that he probably shouldn't go all out on threatening Hanji. "Exactly, Levi, that's a very bad word.", I chuckled, agreeing with Maggie who seemed to be very serious about Levi not insulting people. He sighed and leaned down. "You're right, little one, sorry." "You have to apologise to auntie Hanji." My best friend next to me chuckled but then took Maggies hand as she saw Levi glare and convinced the little girl to go get some candy.
"You good?", I asked. "You seem a bit on edge." Levi put an arm around my waist and let out a nervous sigh. "Yeah, just not my usual circumstances." "You don't get married every day? You don't say.", I replied sarcastically, chuckling as he rolled his eyes. "You know what I mean, idiot." "That's Mrs. Ackermann for you now." He nodded, seemingly thinking about something. "Damn." Somehow, there others had really convinced Niccolo to be our chef, he had originally gotten a few cooks from the island but Sasha said he'd gotten so annoyed at one point that he sent everyone out and did the whole thing by himself. Man doesn't seem to joke when it comes to his cooking.
What Hanji had said about the ohotographer being present was indeed the truth. I saw him a few times, taking pictures of the most important parts. They'd take a few days to develope tho. So when lying on the couch in Levi's office a few days after the wedding, I was looking through the few pictures for the first time. The developing team had already put names, dates and even time on the back of the pictures to keep them in the correct order. "History books, my ass, I'll keep this close to my chest." I looked up at Levi from where my head was resting on his lap.
He had reached for one of the pictures, it showed us at the altar, probably a few seconds before the 'I dos'. "I think they're gonna print some copies. No way we're giving the originals away.", I replied, looking back at the pictured in my hand. Some from the ceremony and some from the celebration afterwards. "Do you think we'll be able to take Maggie in soon?" "Historia said she's working as fast as she can to make it happen.", he replied, one hand resting in my hair.
