Within your life, you had dealt with a tremendous deal of mishaps which, evidently, despite it all, lead you to a thriving mentality within grasp of those around you. Home fell in the hands of the company of the Avengers, a group you never believed you would be part of. You had seen it all, from Bucky Barnes, the formerly notoriously feared Winter Soldier, sobbing with you when your childhood cat passed away – he had loved Muffin like she was his own child – to experiencing Natasha's thigh grip around your neck during training – a memory you'd never forget.

Yet, in all your life, you never thought that a 200-pound man would be almost at his knees before you, pleading with every inch of his being. Never in your life did you think Steve Rogers, Captain America himself, would be that very same man.

'Please, [Y/N]. I need you to do this for me.'

The smirk plastered on your face said it all. The conversation was only drawn out by your sharp tongue. 'Why should I? I'm perfectly content staying home tonight.'

The scenario in question was a dinner party – nothing more than Steve simply meeting up with old friends. Admittedly, you knew how difficult it was for him to manage all his newfound relationships with co-workers and such since Bucky came back, what with the timid hunk of a man acting like a lost puppy without his childhood best friend nearby. It was within this slender window whereby Steve would be able to finally join his acquaintances in one of their infamous dinners, Bucky being sent off with the familiar redhead for a month-long mission. It was within this slender window, however, which the anxiety grew ever present, evidently slithering into each thought which crossed his mind at the prospect of conversing with those whom he only really had brief interactions within past. The fear that conversations would grow distasteful, boring, infected each thought of his; hence, as he so dearly explained, Steve asked you to be his date, preaching that you were an expert of communication and excuses. While you generally would have taken such comment as a compliment, it was the small mumble afterward that didn't quite reach your ears that refuted your acceptance. If it weren't for his sly tongue, you would have gleefully accepted – after all, who wouldn't want to be Steve Rogers' date?

But it was the way that he ran his mouth so absentmindedly which prolonged your response, albeit you somewhat enjoyed the way he begged for you.

Steve stared down at you with wide, pleading puppy eyes, his bottom lip quivering with each word he spoke, 'Come on, [Y/N]. It's nice to get out of the house every now and then, you know that. I promise I'll do anything for you in return. Please?'
