"We can't possibly let her go in alone." Jihoon says to the group showing clear concern. I wipe the alcohol from my lips with my hand.
There was no safe answer; it was a lose-lose situation. I guess in this case it was a lose-lose-lose situation.
"I agree but we can't spend another thirty minutes for there to be a second loser." Sewoon admits.
"I'll go." Jonghoon raises his hand as he volunteers himself.
"Psh, of course you would but what fun is that? How about just a simple game of rock, paper, scissors?" K suggests.
Jonghoon puts his hand back down on his lap. I grabbed his hand and smiled at him, showing my appreciation for his action."Everyone ready?" K looks at everyone making sure their hands are out and ready. "The last one standing goes with Riyae" I watch intently, hoping at least Jonghoon wins.
"Rock, paper, scissors...shoot!"
Everyone pulls out their hand in the middle and Sewoon, Areum, and Jihoon lose. K, Danny, Chansuk, Jonghoon, and Sunwoo are left.
"Rock, paper, scissors and shoot!"
Jonghoon and Chansuk lose this time. I'm at the edge of the seat and bouncing my leg at this point, hoping I at least go with K or Danny.
I see Sunwoo rub his hands together fiercely and K widens his stance. Danny yells out, "Okay! One more round!"
"Rock, paper, scissorssshoot!"
They all simultaneously pull out paper.
K begins to say the phrase to continue but Sewoon stops him. "Let's do these four. It'll be funnier if Danny and K went."
"What?! That's not fair!" K and Danny yelled out at together. Sewoon just looked smug. He's doing this on purpose, right?
I make eye contact with Jonghoon, who's clearly worried about me. I walk up to him.
"It's just the woods and it's for a few minutes. I'll be fine and I'll have K and Danny with me." I tried to reassure him.
"I don't want you falling or getting hurt. The woods can be dangerous." His eyes were full of care.
"She'll be fine! It's Riyae, you know? The woods should be more scared of her." Sewoon butts in and Jonghoon chuckles at his comment."Okay, and the timer for ten minutes starts...now!" Jihoon starts the timer on his phone and both K and Danny run in together. Sunwoo and I look at each other from across the bonfire pit. I sighed and just made my way towards the trees; I heard Sunwoo coming behind me. I pull up his hoodie that I still have covering my arms and I turn on my phone flashlight and just walk.
A good two minutes in and Sunwoo and I are a good depth into the woods. We see no signs of K or Danny and the fire is way out of view. I just keep walking.
"We don't need to go that far in, just as long as we're out here for the full time." Sunwoo spoke as he walked beside me. I stopped in my footsteps.
"Right, I don't know why I didn't think of that." I sheepishly reply.Maybe because I'm currently focused on how weird this situation is.
I turn around and look back at how far we've walked without saying a word to each other. Should I say something? This isn't really the place to have small talk, though, right? I decided to keep walking with my phone in hand but going left this time. Sunwoo followed.
"So, how are you liking the trip so far?" Sunwoo first asked. It would be too awkward not to say anything back.
"I've been having a lot of fun reuniting with the guys. It's interesting to see how much we've changed in these past few years." I answer honestly.
"Yeah, it's been too long since we've all been together." Sunwoo adds on. "How's Jonghoon reacting to us all?"
I didn't expect Sunwoo to ask about Jonghoon so soon.
"He likes you guys for sure. He's always been kinda left out since he's only heard stuff about us from me and Sewoon so I know he's enjoying being apart of the group for once."Maybe I shouldn't have shared that much...
Sunwoo scoffs. "Yeah, I'm sure we would have been cool if he hung out with us more back then. He seems like a nice guy." It goes silent for a few seconds.
We talked a little bit about work but there wasn't much to share so it goes quiet again. Before I could think about it, I asked about Eunbi.
