Our break has officially ended and today, I start the first day of my last year of high school.
Jihoon has finally moved out after reluctant about it for so long. He has gotten a whole lot closer with each of his members so he's more comfortable with them. It wasn't a huge farewell since we could see him whenever, but I know this was big for my parents; it's never easy letting your child out into the scary world of music and fame. After stalling for 5 minutes hugging and talking about random things, Jihoon left the nest. I knew I was going to miss being around him, but I was confident that our sibling relationship wouldn't be altered. He is set to debut in a few months so I'll have my chance to bother him like normal.
I got to hang out with Sewoon a few times over the break since his dad was generous enough to let him off for working earlier. We mainly talked about school and how much we were both not looking forward to it. It's suppose to be the most stressful year since we had to make very important decisions about our future. Sewoon and I don't really know what we want to do so we're just mentally preparing ourselves for the worst.
While waiting for the teacher to arrive, Sewoon and I were already complaining about our classes.
"Why do we have so many classes this year?"
"They're probably trying to murder us." I replied.
He groaned as he layed his head down on the desk in despair. For our first few classes, it was just an introductory of what was expected from us and what we were going to learn- nothing special, I was just looking forward to free time.
"Finally, the bell." Sewoon and I both said simultaneously. We left the class, went to the cafeteria to get some snacks, and found a bench to sit at outside. We talked about different topics before eventually talking about Sunwoo and I.
"Has anything happened since your last date?" Sewoon asked.
"Not really, we texted and called from time to time but we haven't seen each other." I answered honestly.
His expression dramatically changed.
"And you're okay with that?"
"Why wouldn't I be?"
"I don't know, it just sounds weird to me."
"Sunwoo has a whole career as an idol and works almost 24/7." I reminded him.
"Did I just hear you say 'idol'?"
I look up and see a girl that was about to walk by us. I turn to Sewoon, panicking that she could've heard our conversation.
"We didn't say that." He bluntly replied.
"No, I'm pretty sure I heard you say idol and I think you also said 'Sunwoo' as in Kim Sunwoo from The Boyz."
I gulped.
"I think you need to get your ears checked."
"I know what I heard, blue head." She turned to me with a fake smile.
"Are you a fan of The Boyz?"
I panicked and I blurted out, "Yes."
Sewoon nudged me and whispered, "What are you doing?" Sadly, I couldn't take back my words.
"Oh! So how long have you been a fan?"
"I recently started listening to their music." I lied.
"So you're new to the fandom?" She gave me a dirty look.
"Is that bad?"
"No, of course not!" I sensed the sarcasm in her voice. "Don't mean to brag but I've been a fan since before they even debuted."
That's bragging?
"Good for y-"
"And my bias is actually Sunwoo. Who's your bias?"
What's a bias?
"Um...Sunwoo, I guess."
She was still giving me a dirty look.
"You know, I've actually met him before."
I have too, you're not special.
"That's nice." I didn't know how much longer I could keep this conversation going.
"So, technically speaking, I have more of a chance being with him than you do."
Sewoon tried to suppress his laughter hearing her comment. I was just shocked at the fact that people actually think this way.
"I'm sure you do."
I could tell she didn't like that I wasn't giving her the reaction she wanted.
"Doesn't that make you mad?!" She yelled out.
"Not really."
Her face became red from anger.
"Just you wait! Once I make Kim Sunwoo my boyfriend, then you'll-"
"Then she'll what?" I hear an unfamiliar voice call out. I tilt my head and see another girl coming our way.
She has dark shoulder-length hair, looks taller than me but shorter than Sewoon, and wearing a hoddie over her uniform. She was also holding a soccer ball in her arm.
"You gonna answer my question?" She asked the mean girl.
"What do you want, Areum?"
Sewoon and I exchanged looks, both extremely confused as to what is happening in front of us.
"Why are you bothering them?"
"It's none of your business."
"It is now." She took a step closer, but the mean girl took a step back.
The mean girl scoffed and rolled her eyes, clearly annoyed. "You can leave now, thanks."
"Hmm, no thanks."
Is a fight about to go down?
"What is your problem?"
"I can't just stand here letting you threaten someone over something impossible."
"Hey! You don't know what you're even talking about!"
The stranger laughed. "You're really shameless, aren't you?"
The mean girl couldn't think of a comeback. "Whatever! I'll show both of you!" She walked away, stomping with each step. The stranger walked up to us and sat between Sewoon and I. She grabbed Sewoon's snacks and began eating them.
"Hey, what do you think your doing?"
"Shouldn't you be thanking me?" She shot back.
"We had it handled."
"Oh yeah, very handled I'm sure."
"Riyae, say something!" Sewoon pleaded, feeling offended.
I was too baffled at what had just happened to have an immediate reaction.
"What do you want me to say?" I asked.
"Anything! You're just going to let her sit there eating my snacks?!"
"Well, we do have to thank her some how."
He shook his head in disbelief.
"It was my pleasure, Riyae, right?"
I nodded.
"So you're the girl that transferred in the middle of the school year and got chased by a mob of crazy fans for hanging out at the idol school last year?"
I nodded again, feeling slightly embarrassed.
"I'm Lee Areum," She raised her hand in front of me.
"Nice to meet you." I said while shaking her hand.
"Pft, what kind of basic name is Lee Areum?" I heard Sewoon whisper under his breath.
"How did you know about the mob of fan girls chasing me?" I asked.
"Almost everyone knows. You're a lot more popular than you think."
Then how come my only friend is Sewoon...
"I actually thought it was pretty cool how you handled it. I don't know what'd I'd do if that ever happened to me." She shivered at the thought.
"Thanks?"
"So is it true?" Areum asked as she ate Sewoon's snacks.
"Is what true?"
"That you have a boyfriend who's an idol? It's the biggest rumour that's been going around for months."
"There's rumors about me?!" My eyes widened in shock.
"Yeah, mainly spread by the fan girls and a lot of people agree with them since you hang out at that school a lot."
"My brother goes to that school so..."
She nodded showing that she understood.
"Makes sense, but how come that mean girl threatened you over Kim Sunwoo?"
"How much did you hear from that conversation??" Sewoon asked with a panicked tone.
"Just when she said she'll make him her boyfriend." She responded without even looking at him.
"I think it's because we share Sunwoo as our bias." I answered, feeling discomfort at what just came out of my mouth.
"Oh, so you're a fan too..." She said with a disappointed look.
"Recent! Only recent!" I assured her.
"Okay, I honestly couldn't care less about popular music and idols."
I sighed in relief, knowing she might not ask anymore questions about Sunwoo.
"It was sooo nice to meet you, Areum, but i'm afraid we have to go." Sewoon got up, grabbed my arm, and took me towards the school building.
"We still have 10 minutes left of free time!" Areum yelled out as we walked away. She began running to catch up to us but Sewoon kept speeding up.
"Wait up!"
