Trigger warning: Self-harm

They say, love, can be in a form of everything. Love can be giving, love can be sacrifice, love can be treacherous, and all you can imagine. I once was asked, how do I define love? I was unsure of my answer, till I experienced it with her.

I first saw Jennie at the comic book shop, near the University we both went to. It wasn't an ordinary encounter, I was scared of her. She was arguing with the manager for who knows what reason. And she was in her full-on tiger mode, I confirm that with the look of the young boy beside him. Later on, I learned that he's her brother.

When I thought our paths will not cross again, I'm wrong. It turns out my friend Bambam knows her. "She's the daughter of my mom's cousin's cousin" I frowned hearing, I didn't understand a thing. "She's a beauty isn't she?" He wiggled his brow so I shove her face. "No, I remembered her because she caused an embarrassing scene at Nilo's," I said about the shop.

"She's feisty, she scolded me when I tore my papers too loud" he states in disbelief, I guess she's really something else. I shouldn't have judged her easily, Jennie is the only guardian left for her brother. Parents got into an accident and now she needs to strive for them. Instead of pitying her, I admire her, what a strong woman for a young age.

"My treat" I enthusiastically announced, I've been pursuing her to have dinner with me. But this girl doesn't give me a chance. "I have no time for this, Lisa" my smile faltered, I nod at her. "I'm sorry" I bowed, I turned back and crossed my fingers. "Call my name, call my name" I mumbled with closed eyes. "Lisa..." In a flash, I faced her "Hmm?" She sighed and scratch the bridge of her nose. "Just tonight" yes!

I brought her to a restaurant, to my surprise she haven't been to one. "What do like?" I smiled at her, her brows glued in the middle. "Pasta..." she shortly replied. "I know you did have lunch, don't settle with pasta," I said. She declined, "it's fine...the food is too expensive" I chuckled amusingly. "Don't mind it, choose for you and your brother" my heart stopped when her eyes sparkled.

That dinner was followed by more, I'm starting to feel unnamed feelings for her. There was a comfort when I am with her. "Julius, this is Lisa. The friend I told you before" the boy was clinching on her leg, afraid to see a stranger. "Hi" I softly wave my hands "I have a gift for you" I lowered and showed him the bag. The boy looked up to her sister "go on" and we became best of friends after that.

Good things that came fast will also leave soon. Jennie went cold to me the next weeks, I didn't take it seriously at first but it bothered me, "god, I like her so much" I palmed my face. I decided to wait and confront her. "Why are you being like this?" I complained trailing her from behind "go home" I groan, "Jennie, wait. We haven't talked yet" I reached for her arm.

"Nothing to talk to, stay away" I had enough and circled in front of her. "What the hell is your problem. We were fine..." My voice became quiet. She diverted her eyes "Jennie, I like you" a lone tear escape her eyes. I panicked to wipe it "What's wrong?" I worriedly asked, "Forget what you said, you can't like me" she then left.

I didn't understand it, she wasn't like that to me. My feelings awfully grew over time, I think about her every day and it wasn't helping me. I'm used to having dinner with her...I gave myself one last chance to see her. I visited their place and saw Julius crying outside their apartment, I run to him. "Hey....what happened?" He was just crying, "Unnie" he murmured, I look at him and saw fear. I jolted when I heard things breaking apart.

I rushed to open the door, it was locked. I used my upper body to slam it, and I was stunned to see the whole place in a disaster. I was motionless at first, but then I saw Jennie throwing everything in sight. I slowly approach her, she was trembling. "Jennie...it's Lisa" I whispered, her body tensed and I finally saw her face again. It was in distress.

"Don't go near me! I said don't go near me. I will hurt you!" she vociferates, startled I back down. She was crying messily when she was about to grab a knife when I hugged her from behind. "Jennie, Jennie..." I called, she was struggling to get off of me. She begins scratching my arms, my neck, and my face. I know it will leave makes but I don't care.

My heart broke seeing like this, I whispered words to calm her down. "You're gonna be fine, I'm here Jennie...I'm here...Lisa will always be here" she fell asleep in my arms. I let her rest in her room and fixed their home, I cooked for the both of them and waited for her to wake up. "I'm sorry you have to see that" she weakly said, hair covering her face.

I held her hand but she pulled away "You can tell me anything, Jen" I assured, she shook her head. "Jennie, you don't have to be afraid-" I took a deep breath before I lifted her chin. She is crying again, I caressed her cheek with my thumb. "I'm sick" I froze, "Borderline personality disorder Lisa, I'm mentally ill" I felt a lump on my throat.

"Is that why you avoided me?" I continued brushing my thumb across her skin, she nodded. "Is that why you pushed me away when I told you I like you?" she bobbed, I laughed and wiped the tears building under my eyes. She looks at me confusingly. "I thought I did something to make you mad...do you like me?" Her lips parted.

"Lisa...we can't" I shushed her "We can trust me" I smiled comfortingly. I brought my lips to her, it was just a peck. "From now on, call my name and you won't be alone" I kept my promise and stayed with her.

It's been years since that happened, and we're still the Lisa and Jennie. I excitedly remove my shoes at the doorways. "Oh unnie you're back" Julius greeted, "help me with this please" he laugh and carried the other bags. "Where's my baby?" I shouted, I heard small giggles and I pretended I didn't see her. When she tugged my shirt "Mama..."

"You're here" I exclaimed, my little princess cheekily smiled, I kissed her multiple times. "Where's mommy?" She pointed upstairs "Nini-room" I nodded and tickled her. I let Julius take care of her and look for my wife. I knock to times "hon" and pushed it open.

Our room was rumpled as if a storm went through. I saw the love of my life curling up in a corner. She was mumbling things when I got closer, it became clearer."Lisa, Lisa..." She sobbed. I tenderly draw her to me, when she saw me she instantly wrapped her arms around my neck. "You're safe..." I soothe her hair.

In her I found the definition of love, love is accepting and without conditions.
