Nicole woke up, still in Loki's muscular arms. She had slept the best she had in a long time. Her chest was covered in bruises from Loki sucking on and nibbling at her supple skin.

The night before had been amazing. He had never ravaged her in such a way before. He hit every one of her sweet spots, as if he knew all of them. He was gentler and seemed to be focusing less on his own satisfaction and more on hers. She had been crying from the pleasure he was giving her, holding on to him tightly, begging for more and more. He was whispering sweet nothings into her ear the whole time. It had been so good. So good she almost could not take it.

Sensing she was awake, he stirred.

"Nicole..." he moaned. He held her closer.

"Good morning," she said cheerfully.

He chuckled into the pillow he laid on, his eyes still shut. "You seem in high spirits. Did you enjoy last night?"

"Mhmm. Very much."

He chuckled again and kissed the back of her neck.

"How did it feel?"

"So...so...good."

"Did it make you less nervous about our impending marriage?"

She paused for a moment. To be honest, it did. At least for the moment.

"Yes."

He grinned. That was exactly what he had wanted. "Do you want me to do it again?"

She giggled sheepishly. "Yes."

He would do whatever it took to make her less tense about marrying him. Sure, he could marry her regardless of her feelings, no matter how anxious she was. But it would not feel good to him. It would make him feel like a monster.

He kissed her again. "Very well."

Two weeks had passed. It was a new year. Anita was back at college in Seattle. Only now, she could hardly focus on her studies. Being a student and a slave at the same time was impossible. She was always distracted, thinking about the nightmare she was being forced to live in. Slave to some sort of wizard. And the worst kind of slave.

When she had first arrived back at college after winter break, she would attend all of her classes. She tried so hard to focus on school. But she gradually grew more and more tired, exhausted, and frightened. To the point where she could not attend her classes anymore. Her grades were beginning to decline.

It was Monday. Anita did not attend any of her classes. She spent the day in her dorm room, doing nothing but laying around, too drained to do anything. She could not even simply scroll through social media.

As the sun began to set, she decided to go out for a walk. She grew tired of being in her room. It would not be a long walk. She needed to return before Loki came for her. She threw on a pair of dark blue jeans, a grey sweater and black sneakers and then left her dwelling.

She went to the campus quad and walked around for a bit. Then she decided to take a seat on one of the many metal benches around the quad. She looked around at the trees and the birds in the trees. She watched as other students roamed around, talking, playing frisbee and hanging out. She wished she could be like them. Carefree. Happy. Free.

After a few minutes, she began to feel drops of rain on her face. After another minute went by, it began to pour. Many of the students that had been hanging out began to leave, not wanting to get soaked in the rain. She did not get up. She stayed put and let the small drops of water soak her hair and clothes. It was cold. She began to shiver. She did not care. She closed her eyes.

A short time passed. She had kept her eyes closed the entire time. She was pretending that she was at a different time in her life. When her dad was alive and Sophie was still her friend and she was happy.

"Anita?"

She opened her eyes and looked up to see where the sudden voice had come from. She was surprised to see Caspian, her handsome classmate from film class. He held a black umbrella in his hand and wore a dark blue raincoat. Obviously he had seen the weather forecast and dressed accordingly.

She felt like she had not spoken to him in ages. In reality, it had only been about a couple of weeks.

"Caspian. Hi."

"What are you doing out here? It's pouring."

She did not reply for a moment. She looked down at her shoes glumly. "I wanted to go out. To take my mind off of some things."

He looked at her with concern. She sounded downcast and she was shivering intensely. According to the expression on her face, she appeared like she was about to burst into tears.

"What kind of things?"

She said nothing, only shaking her head in response.

He looked around for a moment and sighed. She was clearly not in a good headspace at the moment. He did not know her that well but he cared enough about her to want to help her through whatever she was going through at that moment.

"Hey, why don't we go get a coffee at the campus coffee shop? My treat," he said with a kind smile.

She thought about it for a moment. She still had time to get back to her dorm before Loki showed up. But did she really feel like hanging out with Caspian in her current state? She still had feelings for him but she was too focused on the whole slave thing to really care.

"I don't know..."

"Come on. You'll catch a cold if you stay out here much longer."

He was right. Besides, the last thing she wanted was to be sick and have to be a slave at the same time.

"Okay. But just for a little while." She stood and got underneath his umbrella. The two of them began to walk down the sidewalk in the direction of the coffee shop.
