Caspian and Anita arrived at the club. It had been a short walk from the college. The whole time, they held hands and chatted. Once inside, the loud sound of upbeat electronic music filled their ears. They could feel the vibrations of the music all over their bodies.
There were two sections inside. An area for lounging and an area for dancing. They were in the lounging section. They found an empty table for two and sat down at it.
"Want to get something to eat?" Caspian asked Anita.
She was not very hungry. Mostly because her nerves had sucked away her appetite. "Nah. I'm not very hungry."
"How about a soda?"
She nodded. "Sure."
"What kind?"
"Pick for me," she said with a grin. He smiled and walked away to the bar.
She glanced around, trying to see if Loki was around. He did not appear to be. Her heart was racing. She trembled slightly. She tried taking a few deep breaths to relax. 'It's going to be okay,' she thought to herself. 'Relax.'
Caspian returned with two glass bottles in his hand. Inside was a dark liquid.
"I got two Cokes. Can't go wrong with Coke."
As he sat down, he noticed how stressed she appeared. He chuckled to himself. "Wow. You're really nervous, huh?"
She nodded. He looked at her for a moment, appearing as if he was thinking about something. Then, he reached into the right hand pocket of his black jean jacket. He took something out. It was a small purple sandwich bag. Inside of it appeared to be small white pills.
"You want one?"
She looked at the bag curiously. "What is it?"
He laughed. "Ecstasy."
"Ecstasy?"
He nodded. "Yep. They'll help you calm down. I take them when I'm feeling stressed or just want to chill."
"Uh, no thanks. I don't do drugs."
"Have you ever tried it?"
"No."
"It's not that bad. It just makes you feel relaxed. And happy. You should try it."
"No...It's okay. Really. What if it makes me feel worse? Doesn't it do that to some people?"
"Even if it does, I'll be here with you to help you relax." He was silent for a moment, staring at her.
"Thanks but no thanks."
He sighed after a moment and chuckled to himself sheepishly. "Sorry. Didn't mean to pressure you or anything. I just want you to have a good time. I want you to relax. I just want you to be focused on me. Not some crazy guy. Me."
She wanted to be only focused on him too. But it would be impossible in her current state. Perhaps having some was not such a bad idea.
After a silent moment, she sighed. "Alright. I'll have one. Just one."
He perked up. "That's all you'll need." He took one of the circular pills out of the little purple bag and, instead of handing it to her, put it up to her lips. A bit surprised, she parted her lips and allowed him to put it in her mouth. She swallowed it. It left a bitter taste in her mouth which she found a bit unpleasant. She took a sip of her soda to wash it away.
He took one more out of the bag and popped it into his mouth. He returned it to his pocket and then brought his attention back to her.
"Hey, I hope this isn't weird to ask but...can I sit next to you?"
She smiled and raised an eyebrow. "Why?"
He shrugged. "It feels weird sitting across from you."
"Well...alright."
He stood, moved his chair next to her and sat down beside her.
"So, how did you meet that guy? The one who's bothering you?"
She thought of a lie quick. "We met at a coffee shop back in my hometown."
"Did you two ever date?"
She shook her head vigorously. "Hell no. He's just very obsessed with me. And very possessive."
"...Hey. I know you said before that he hasn't done anything to you. But I just wanted to ask again, did he hurt you? You don't have to lie to me if something bad happened. I won't judge you. I would never judge you."
She looked into his kind eyes that showed through the ski mask. She knew she could not tell him exactly what happened but she could tell him some things.
"Well, the truth is, yes. He did. He...he beat me and he violated me. Again. And again. And again."
Caspian's neutral expression turned into a look of sadness and horror. "I..."
"He tortured me. He...he broke me." She started to cry.
"Hey, hey. Come on. Don't cry," he said, wrapping an arm around her and pulling her close to him.
"I'm sorry. I don't mean to cry. I'm just...I'm..." she gave up trying to form a sentence and cried harder.
"Shhh...it's okay. It's okay. You're okay. I'm here," he whispered to her.
She cried into his clothed chest. He was so warm. So gentle. Nothing at all like Loki.
"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have brought it up again."
"It's okay. I know you meant well."
After a few minutes, she finally got a hold of herself. He let go of her once she did. She found herself missing the feeling of his body against hers.
"Let's talk about something else."
She nodded. "Yeah, okay."
For the next thirty minutes, Anita and Caspian were chatting about random topics. School, tv shows and movies, among other things.
"Is it just me, or does our film class teacher look like a teacher from a porn?" asked Caspian.
Anita laughed. "That's exactly what I thought when I first saw her! Like a stereotypical..."
She stopped talking, suddenly distracted by something. Her hands. They were gold and sparkly. "My hands..."
"What?" asked Caspian.
"They're...they're so beautiful."
A sudden rush of warmth and peace washed over her. She smiled and leaned her head against his shoulder. She wrapped her arms around his waist and sighed.
He chuckled, suddenly realizing what was going on. "You're feeling it, huh?"
She hugged him tighter. "Mhmmm."
He held her back. "It feels good, huh?"
She giggled like a little girl. "Uhuh."
"Wanna dance?"
She giggled harder. "Hell yeah."
