"I got pink hair dye everywhere and my mom was so mad!" said Anita through laughter.
Sophie laughed with her. "Oh my god."
"It took me like...a day to get it to come out of the white carpet."
Anita and Sophie sat in a Starbucks, talking and sipping from their coffees.
"Speaking of your mom, how is she? You know after what happened with your dad."
The smile that was on Anita's face faded a bit.
"She's okay. Better than she was three years ago. But I know she's still hurting a lot inside. Sometimes when I would wake up early in the morning, I could hear her crying in the living room."
"Yikes."
"Yeah. I know she's going to therapy so hopefully that will help her feel better with a little more time."
"I'm so sorry. I still remember the day it happened. You were so crushed. How are you? Now that it's been a little while since he died?"
Anita's smile was completely gone now. She didn't answer for a few moments. She could feel tears starting to well up in her eyes.
"Um...I'm sorry. Can we talk about something else?"
"Oh, of course! I'm sorry. I didn't mean to make you upset or anything."
"No, it's okay. I know you mean well."
"Well...are you still into Marvel stuff?"
Anita's smile returned. "Hell yes!"
"Me too! Did you hear that they are making another Black Panther?"
"Yes! I'm excited."
"Killmonger was so hot. And he was such a good villain. I hope they bring him back somehow."
"He was alright but Loki is so much better. And hotter."
Sophie rolled her eyes. "I thought that ship had sailed."
"Nope, the ship is still at the docks, obsessing over that glorious god."
"Loki is dead. Didn't you see Infinity War?"
"He's not dead in all the universes. And he's definitely not dead in my heart."
"Didn't his actor go missing a while ago?"
"Yeah. I hope he's okay. Maybe he just wanted to get out of the spotlight for a while?"
"Maybe."
They were both silent for a few moments, sipping from their drinks and looking at their phones.
"Hey, I meant to ask you, do you want to go to a party tonight with me?" asked Sophie.
"A party?"
"Yeah. Apparently there's some welcome back to school party in one of the fraternity houses and everyone is invited to come. I wasn't going to go because I didn't have anyone to go with but now I have you. So, do you want to go?"
Anita thought for a moment. She wasn't really a party girl.
"I don't know."
"Come on! It's a party. And a college party at that. Just imagine it. We both go together, dance, maybe drink a bit, meet some cute guys..."
"Well...I do like dancing and cute guys," said Anita. "But maybe not drinking. I have classes tomorrow."
"Alright, no drinking then. That's fine with me."
