Nicole was finished bathing. After drying her body off, she went to her closet and picked out one of her many nightgowns. She picked one that was deep blue with golden sheer sleeves and Asgardian style trimmings around the neckline. She slipped it on.

Now that she was done refreshing herself, she decided to practice magic. She did not have anything else to do besides sleep or lay around.

She wanted to work on levitation specifically. She closed her eyes and focused, trying to feel her energy within. After a little while, she was completely focused and she could feel it. The energy. She could feel it moving. It pulled, it pulsed, it vibrated. It felt warm, almost hot.

Now that she was feeling it, she began to try to manipulate it. She imagined the energy moving down to her feet and pushing her up off the ground. After a moment, she began to raise. But only a few inches. She tried to go higher but she failed and fell back down to the ground. She sighed.

What was she doing wrong? Perhaps she was not focused enough.

She took a few deep breaths and tried again. She closed her eyes, emptied her mind again and focused harder than she ever had before. Soon, she had entered a state of meditation. Most of her surroundings had disappeared. All that existed was the energy inside of her.

She tried levitating again. This time, her feet lifted up about two feet from the floor. She opened her eyes and gasped. She was excited but she had to stay focused. Otherwise, she would go back down. She closed her eyes back and resumed. She kept thinking of the warm energy pushing her up, raising her higher and higher. Soon, she was halfway to the ceiling. She could not help but laugh joyfully.

She wanted to try something else. Firing an energy blast while levitating. She wanted to see if it was possible for her to do two things at once. She put her right hand out and focused. Soon, a blast of blue energy emitted from her palm. She laughed.

"Yes!" she exclaimed. She whooped gleefully.

She was so focused on what she had been doing, she had not heard Loki open the door to her room and enter.

He was baffled by what his eyes were seeing. "Nicole!" he shouted, his tone sharp and puzzled. "What are you doing?"

Her focus dissolved as soon as she heard his voice and as a result, she fell back to the floor. She landed on her back and groaned in pain. She stood and looked at him fearfully, her eyes wide. "Loki! I...I-"

He walked over to her with haste. "What were you just doing?"

She hesitated before speaking, not knowing what to say. There was no lie she could make up. He had seen her. She had no choice but to confess.

"I-I've been teaching myself magic."

He was stunned. Nicole, a simple Midgardian, was able to perform sorcery? And not just any sorcery, Asgardian sorcery? How was it possible? Her race did not have the power within them to do it. They were known for being feeble. Yet, he had just witnessed her doing it.

He remained silent for several moments, appearing to be thinking very deeply. She stared at him anxiously, waiting for his response.

At last, he opened his mouth. "Ah. Is that so?" He took about two steps towards her. "How did you learn it?"

"Books. I learned it from reading books." She did not mention her stealing a book from a shop. It would most definitely make things worse for her.

"My books?" he asked.

"No, books I looked through while out running errands for you."
