"Okay, I think I have it set to Asgard," said Trinity. "It's showing a map and it looks...otherworldly. I'm assuming this is it."

"Let's hope so. Don't want you ending up in some random place that also happens to be called Asgard," said Detective Rodgers. "Get inside the tube and I'll press the button to send you."

She did not move a muscle, instead looking at him worriedly.

"Trinity, you need to go. They are probably coming now to stop us."

"Look...detective...Mr. Rodgers. I can't leave you here. You have to come along," she replied.

"I can't. Someone has to push the button to send you there."

"Just push it and hurry inside."

"I won't be fast enough. Please, just go. If anyone is going to get in trouble, I would rather it be me."

"It's just that, you have been so kind and helpful while everyone else was apathetic. I don't want anything terrible to happen to you."

"The worst I'll get is a few years in prison but I'll be fine. Please, go. Just go. Everything will be fine." He knew that what he had just said was not true at all but he had to calm her down.

She realized there was no point in arguing anymore about it. He was not going to change his mind. There was nothing she could do at that point but get in the glass tube and be sent to Asgard.

Before she walked away from him to get inside, she suddenly embraced him. He hugged her back tightly.

"Save Nicole. Save her from that bastard," he said. After a few more moments, they ended the hug. He reached into his coat pocket and handed something to her. A small pocket knife. "Almost forgot. It's not much but at least you will have some protection."

She took it and put it in one of the back pockets of her blue jeans. "Thanks." She gave him one more look before hurrying over to the glass tube. She opened the glass door, got inside and closed it back. A faint humming noise coming from the contraption filled her ears.

"Are you ready?" he asked.

She closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and nodded. "Yes."

He hovered his pointer finger over a green button that had the word TRANSPORT on it. "Alright, here we go. Three...two...one..." When his finger was less than an inch away from pressing it, Trinity heard a loud pop. Her eyes flew open, looking to see what had caused the noise. She was horrified by what she saw.

"No..." she said softly.

Several security guards accompanied by a man in a white lab coat stood at the entrance. She noticed all the guards had their guns drawn. Her eyes went to Detective Rodgers, fearing the worst. And the worst had happened.

He was on the floor, beside the control panel of the machine. A pool of blood was forming beside him. She emerged from the tube and sprinted over to him.

"Get on the ground!" yelled a couple of the security guards.

She paid no attention to them, focusing on him. She knelt down beside him and looked him over. She noticed a single bullet wound in his chest.

"Oh god, they shot me," he said through pained gasps.

"It's going to be okay. It's going to be okay," she said, putting her hands to the wound and applying pressure.

"Trinity, I'm sorry. This was a bad idea. I never should have tried to do this," he said.

"No, it wasn't. It's going to be okay, it will be okay."
