"Well, what do you think?" asked Anita, one hand on her hip, posing with a smile on her face.
"Hot!" exclaimed Sophie, who was sitting on the grey couch in the living room of Anita's house.
"Oh my goodness! You look gorgeous!" cried Anita's mom. She was sitting next to Sophie. She stood, ran to her daughter and put her hands on her bare shoulders. "Gorgeous! So gorgeous! You look like someone out of Vogue."
"Are you sure the dress isn't too much?" asked Anita.
She was referring to the white ball gown she wore. The top of the dress was lacy and tight. The long lace sleeves went off her shoulders. The bottom of the dress puffed out, but not too much. It was covered with sparkles and it went all the way down to her feet.
"It looks fine, Ani! Besides, being overdressed is better than being underdressed, especially at a fancy ball," said Sophie.
"You make a good point."
"You look fine to me, sweetheart. You look like a princess," said Anita's mom. "I wish your father could see you now. He wouldn't believe his eyes. His...his little girl...all grown up."
She struggled to finish the last sentence, getting choked up.
"Mom, it's okay. Don't cry."
"I'm sorry. I just...I just wish he could see you now."
"He can. I know he can."
A tear ran down her mother's cheek. "Excuse me. I'll be right back." She disappeared down the hallway and went into the bathroom.
"Great. I made her cry," said Anita.
"It's not your fault. She's just still grieving," said Sophie.
"It kind of is. I triggered her."
The two of them fell silent. Wanting to take her friend's mind off of what had just happened, Sophie changed the subject. "The ball starts in an hour so we should probably get going now. The line to get in will be longer the more we wait."
"Okay, we can go. I just need to get the car keys from my mom."
Her mother returned from the bathroom after a few minutes, a smile on her face although it was apparent from her puffy face and slightly red eyes that she had just been crying.
"Mom, can I get the keys to the car now? We're going to go."
"Of course," replied her mother. She removed the keys from the back pocket of her blue jeans and handed them to Anita. "Now be careful, okay? The weather forecast says it's going to snow a little tonight. Don't crash the car or anything."
"I won't. You know I'm a good driver."
Sophie stood up from the couch. Anita led the way to the front door and opened it.
"Have fun, you two! And be safe!" shouted Anita's mom from the living room.
"We will!" both of them shouted back in unison as they walked out the door.

"What do you think, slave?"
Loki stood in front of Nicole, his arms spread out. He wore a Midgardian style suit consisting of a white button down shirt with a emerald green vest over it, black dress pants, a black suit coat and an emerald green tie. His black hair was slicked back. On his feet were shiny black dress shoes.
They were in Nicole's room, standing by the large gold doors. Loki was about to leave to go to Midgard.
"You look charming," replied Nicole, looking him up and down. "Very charming. The best you have looked all week, Master. Not that you didn't look great this week too. You just look even better now."
