"You can't hide from me, Anita," said Erik, still smiling deviously. "And you definitely can't escape either."
She gagged, his grip on her neck preventing her from breathing. He squeezed her neck a bit tighter. She squirmed and wiggled, trying to get free. He laughed at her.
"I've been dreaming of doing this to you all day long..."
Anita suddenly had an idea. She kicked him as hard as she could in his crotch. He cried out in pain and let her go. She fell to the ground and gasped desperately for air.
"You strumpet..." he growled to himself.
She stood and began to run once again. She didn't know where she was going but all she knew was she had to keep moving.
"If I wasn't delivering you to the king, I would have spilt your blood already, quim!"
She wasn't listening. She kept running. She panted heavily as she frantically looked around, searching for somewhere that could be a safe haven for her. Unfortunately, due to her lack of attention to what was in front of her, she slipped on a moist patch of leaves and fell backwards. Her head hit a large rock and she was knocked out.
She woke up, lightheaded. The back of her head was throbbing and it felt wet. She gently touched it. Under her hair, she could feel a big gash and thick, warm blood oozing out. As she was trying to collect herself, she was grabbed by the collar of her dress and lifted up off her feet.
"Now you're mine," said Erik, holding her up in the air with little effort.
Thinking quick, she bit his hand that held her as hard as possible. He let go of her and let out a growl. She ran again.
"You bitch!" he cried.
He ran after her again. He was too fast for her. She knew she would never be able to outrun him. Thinking quick, she decided to crouch down behind a cluster of bushes. This area of the forest was darker so she hoped he would not be able to see her easily.
After a few moments, he appeared beside the bushes. He looked around. She was terrified that he would see her. If he did, she knew she was toast.
"Where are you, wench!" shouted Erik.
He looked all around him. He looked at the bushes that she hid behind. Her heart leaped. Did he see her?
She calmed down when he looked elsewhere. He had not spotted her.
"So you want to play hide and seek, hm? Alright. Let's play hide and seek..."
He walked away, continuing to search for her. Once he was out of sight, she made a run for it.
After what felt like forever of running, she reached a dead end. It was a steep hill, like the one she had went down when entering the forest. Only it was steeper. She was going to have to climb it. She had no choice. There was no turning back.
She went up the hill as fast as she could, grabbing at dirt, plants and rocks to prevent her from sliding back down. When she reached the top, she felt relieved. But not much. She wasn't safe yet. She had to get back to campus. She had to get to her dorm.
At the top of the hill was an empty road, just like the one she had been on when Erik had first started chasing her. She vaguely recognized it. She was close to campus. Just a few blocks away. She sprinted down it.
I'm going to get away! she thought. He doesn't even know where I am right now. I'm in the clear!
At the end of the road were two roads. She took the one on the right. After running for about a minute, she could see in the distance buildings and stores. She recognized this area. She was so close.
I'm safe, I'm safe, I'm-
A sudden sharp pain in the back of her calf startled her. She stopped and looked at it. A black dart was stuck in it.
Before she could react, she felt another sharp pain in the back of her other calf. She looked again. There was another dart.
"No..."
Her body became too heavy for her legs and she collapsed in the middle of the road. She tried to get back up but it was no use.
"Hahaha!"
Erik approached her.
"I knew where you were all along. I just wanted to let you think you had gotten away," he said with a wicked smile.
"Leave me alone..." said Anita weakly. Her vision was beginning to fade.
"Never. I have you now."
He picked her up and slung her over his shoulder.
"Let's go. The king is waiting."
"No...no..."
She went unconscious.
